<![CDATA[Wireless controle outlet ikea]]>Hi, I’ve (almost) finished my MM setup. I’m using Ikea’s tradfri to turn on/off the monitor and a led strip. Well that was the idea. The monitor is connected to the wireless controle outlet and activated with the wireless motion sensor. The motion sensor is also used for the led strip which is connected directly to the power outlet.

The problem is that the monitor is not always (most of the time actually) powered on when motion is detected. Sometimes I get the startup logo and then it stops and sometimes it does work.

Any idea how to solve this?

My mirror is in the bathroom and I only use the bathroom in the morning when I wake up and in the evening when I go to bed.

I have face-recognition installed so maybe that could wake the monitor when it’s a sleep. Not the best solution in my case. Maybe I need to get another wireless control outlet. I have some Hue stuff that I could try.

I have a tv that cannot turn back on via power.
so I hide all the modules instead. sorta my hall nightlite.

but, it has another quirk. because there is no change in the HDMI signal, after 15 minutes it powers off anyhow!!!

so I changed my sleepwake module to wakeup ever 14 minutes 58 seconds for 2 seconds, show all the content, and go back to sleep(hiding all the modules again). tv is happy and 99.9% of the time I am not watching the monitor when it happens… sleeping, out of the house, watching TV… whatever… so it’s not an issue

So the monitor stays in powered on mode even when disconnected from power supply. So I figured this should work. Strange thing is that sometimes it works okay.
I could add a switch to manually power the monitor but the idea was to do it all on motion detection.

so, I don’t think that is that problem.

if the time between off and back on is short enough there is probably some residual charge left over in the monitor power supply.

after a number of minutes/hours this dissipates.

none of my current monitors will turn on by their power cord . all require button push.

I used to have an.old 17 monitor that I could power on with an external power switch. almost 10 years ago now

The manual states that the outlet has max. output power 2300W, that should be enough for a monitor.

if on/off was controlled by the os mm is running on, then if the monitor supported the CEC interface you could power on/off thru vec-cliebt commands.

all energystar compliant monitors/TV’s are required to power off after 15 mins of no usage, detected by monitoring the HDMI signal

most of the software commands turn off the HDMI port, which will cause the timeout, AND a big ugly display no input
