Noob noob noob here. So I have took the amazing plunge in building a family dashboard using this software and it is amazing… Both my kids are just going highschool and are allowed to walk, i am hoping for a module or guidance to something that can show a live map on my screen…!

The only thing i am missing is location tracker just for my kids phones… I am hoping for guidance on using the tracking from either life360, Google family link, Google maps, WhatsApp location… Anything really just so i can see the general whereabouts…

I’ve spent hours but can’t seem to find anything… I would be very grateful…
…

Where do you find the UNOFFICIAL modules for Life360?

There are a few ways to integrate live phone tracking into MagicMirror:

Life360 Integration:
Life360 provides real-time location data via its API. While there’s no official MagicMirror module, a few users have created custom modules using their API tokens. You’d need a bit of coding, but it’s doable. Check out Life360’s developer docs and look into how to fetch JSON data into a MagicMirror module.

Google Maps:
You can use Google Maps’ “Share Location” feature and embed a shared map via iframe in a MagicMirror iFrame module. It won’t show real-time movement but will update locations as they refresh.

Custom GPS Tracker Apps:
Some people use GPS tracker apps (like “GPSWOX” or “Traccar”) that feed live data to a server. From there, you can write a script or small module to read and display that data on the mirror.

As a parent myself, I totally get the importance of this feature—it’s a great idea for the dashboard.

That is some expensive free stuff. 48 bucks a month. Not something this community wants to know about I would guess. Spy ware is not always clean it usually has some kind of virus or key logger to steal your information for the person providing the spyware.

I found something in the meantime that I want to share. Though I had been searching something for free this time. I read a nice article a while ago. This one has shown how to find the location of the person you are tracking, but also track the history of all the places they’ve been in. If you want to visit and read this article click here for more details.

I have 8 members in total in my family. I want to track them all using a single app. Is there anything for free?

It’s still frustratingly slow to recognize when you’re inside a geofence. If you reboot your phone, you have to open the app to authorize the location data. Once it has been opened, you can close it and it will reliably run in the background.

I need to play with the Google location sharing and Apple’s equivalent and see if I can get that to integrate. Some day.

This was especially true on other family members’ phones, where I can’t make sure the app is constantly running in the background. Has the reliability improved?

It should not be difficult to build a module that displays raw location from OwnTracks.

If you can pull the coordinates from their phones (for Apple’s iCloud Find My, there’s a python module to grab data…I’d assume you can get it off Android phones too), you can post the coordinates to the map.
