Hi, I’m Daniel, 29yo DWH Architect from Czech Republic. Married (quite happily), father of a cheerful one year old girl.

These days I’m working from homeoffice, so instead of microadventures and fishing I invest more time in my family and smart home implementation. I’ve made my magicmirror like 2 years ago. Now I’m waiting for a new glass and totally looking forward to building a new and better one.

Thanks for being so great community!

                Hello Everyone,
I’m Rob, a mechanical engineer who loves to build. I started building a magic mirror a year ago and recently finished building a proper woodshop so making this frame out of black walnut was much easier. I am definately a newbie at this programming stuff and often get stuck even with simple updates. Anyone want to walk me though how to make a few changes? 🙂

I’m Roger, I’m in the UK, I usually work on cloud systems (Salesforce and Hubspot) but I have a soft spot for Linux and I’m very interested in smart Home stuff… I want to do something with HomeKit.

And stumbled upon MM… and considering if I should make one…

I also like to mend ancient sewing machines and occasionally I sew something…

Hi, my name is Torsten, 45, Single, no kids from near Kaiserslautern in Germany. I work as a computer technican for the Gouverment of Transportation.

I start building my MM in the covid-19 times, as i work in homeoffice and on evenings when its boring, because you can not go out or visiting your friends.

It was my second project with a Raspi (first was a Pi-hole Ad-filter)and im learning every day things about Linux, Raspi and the MM software. Im not sure, but i belive Im a bit addicted to the RasPi 😉
I have a litte bit knowledge about html, css and php.

Im sitting my whole life in front of a PC, so in my age its time to do some other stuff:
In my free time im intrested about photography and when the weather is nice, i ride my motorcycle.

Great community here and i look forward what nice and fresh ideas are growing up here.

                    Greetings Torsten

Hello! My name is Kevin and I am from London, Ontario, Canada. I’m 58 years old and recently retired after 37 years in the IT profession - started as a software developer and then somehow morphed into a Senior Architect designing various things such contact centres and voice applications. I also very occasionally teach IT courses at our local college. I’ve been married for over 30 years and have 2 grown children.

I enjoy tinkering (without always knowing what I’m doing), hiking, traveling, and playing hockey because Canada 🙂

My COVID project has been to build a ‘family info screen’ using the MM framework. It is hanging in my kitchen and currently doing things such display family photos from a local NAS, show local weather, show local waste collection calendar, etc. all with voice support. I will say that if not for the patience of this community, I would not have been successful with this build! My current project is to create a new provider for the default weather module to pull data from Environment Canada - seen running here on my MM build:

I look forward to adding more functionality to my display in the future!

Hi! I’m Bob, I work in IT for John Deere, and am a graduate student at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. For a class project, I needed to build an IoT device, so wrote a Python program that interfaced with Google Speech-to-Text APIs to do some voice recognition. I programmed that to compare what was being said with a script, allowing actors to use the mirror to see themselves performing, while making sure they were accurate with their lines. I then used MagicMirror to handle the output, to show what the other actors would say.

It was a fun project. I still need to go back and put backing behind the mirror glass, to block any light coming through, and I want to hook up some speakers to allow the program to actually speak back to the actor, but here’s what it looks like now.
