Hi everybody,
since I have a few 17’’ displays at home I wonder if it is possible to make a dual display magic mirror. After a quick search I found this cheap VGA board. Do you think it is possible to run two instances of magic mirror, one on the VGA port and one on the HDMI port? Or even better, to expand the display to both monitors?

Did you manage to use 2 monitors with one Pi? Just like you I have some old monitors catching dust and would like to make a mirror with one pi. Including a camera to shut both screen down.

i bought the Gert VGA 666 board but could not try it out yet (i preferred to start another Raspi-project in the meantime).
But since you are interested i will try to assemble that thing and connect two displays. Maybe i can try it this weekend.Luke

While the description says it can drive both a VGA and HDMI connected monitors, resulting in a dual setup, MM is configured to launch one Electron screen. You might be able to run a side-by-side installation of MM and launch it on a secondary port, and I’m assuming it will launch a second Electron window that you will then have to position on screen. I just don’t know what will happen when/if you restart the rpi. Will it remember where the screens were positioned? only testing will answer that.

Do you really mean the Raspi, or do you mean MagicMirror?
There is a VGA Modul for the Rasp, to handle two displays.It’s just interesting if MM knows hof to show it correct on restart.

Hi jeff,
the raspi has only a hdmi output and a output 4 a gpio display.
It is not possible to really work with 2 display’s.
U have a link to your VGA Module?
If this module is really capable to run those 2 displays than u maybe can run a MM as web server build and one as MM2.
If it’s possible to run two different MM2 instances i don’t really know that.
Maybe it’s possible to run a second MM2 at another port!

Hey everybody, finally i managed to solder the GERT VGA-adapter!
I hope to find the time to test if it works this week. i will share my experiences here :-)

So the VGA adapter works (despite ugly soldering) but i did not manage to use VGA and HDMI simultaneously. After some further research on the topic i think it is necessary to use a custom kernel.
On ubuntu i know you can configure dual display using xrandr, but i have no idea how to do something like that with raspbian.

I will try to dig a little deeper but to be honest i’m not deep enough into linux and development to fully understand this issue.

You can run Dual monitor on Rpi.
If you search Youtube, first result ( link ) will show you, how to do that via external VGA Adapter to USB port. (see ytb video description ~50USD).
You can get cheaper solutions on ebay (~7USD) but there you need to somehow get right product, that is supported by Rpi, even if product description says only Win 7/8/10. You can see this raspberrypi.org thread for more details. -

I’m not sure about the driver situation. I’ve used it before on a desktop computer.
I’m looking to use 2 monitors to make a large mirror. Any thoughts?

There’s always an outside solution (though you would need a separate power supply). Basically a box that takes two monitors and plugs into one port on the Pi (and the pi thinks it sees one superwide monitor).

@wemarch Not on a raspberry pi, I used one a few years ago when setting up a cctv security system for a local business. But it SHOULD work (assuming you can find one with hdmi outs) since it doesn’t take any kind of drivers, it just reports a 2560x720 (2 identical 1280x720 monitors in the case of the cctv setup I put together) sized monitor to the video chipset.
The question is, can the video core of a Raspberry Pi handle an ultrawide display?
