Not sure what the problem is. suddenly my pi and subsequently magic mirror had lost wifi connection.

I inserted a wifi dongle into the raspberry pi4 which seems to now allow the pi to connect to wifi uninterrupted.

However with the wifi dongle, VNC no longer works from my pc to troubleshoot AND the magic mirror remote app (the best) has also stopped connecting.

Any advice on where to start troubleshooting?

Good call on the new ip address. Thanks Sam. everythings up and running again

restarting modem and router didnt help any when I was testing dongle-less.
It’s working fine now with the dongle, I just wish I understood what caused the built-in wifi to drop

@Nneuland the not connecting with the dongle is because there is a different IP address than the built in wifi.

do you have a mouse & keyboard on the pi. gonna need that

Ideally I would like to avoid using the dongle all together, but the Pi doesn’t seem to want to stay connected without the dongle. Yes, I can take the mirror off the wall and connect a mouse and keyboard.

I have a wireless keyboard/mouse on the way to avoid needing to take the mirror off the wall constantly.

@Nneuland I’ll toss in my two cents but my old router all the ip addresses seemed fixed.
My new router arbitrarily change ip addresses on devices and while I assume it provides some sort of protection to home network it made my life very complicated for a few weeks.
I’ve come back and made static ip addresses for some but not all of the various IoT stuff.
