that’s what I am doing. I was using an adapter for initial testing, then I bought a HDMI to DVD cable from amazon for the final build. Works just fine

Dont get a straight VGA to HDMI cable because it wouldnt work. You would need convertor which is a bit larger than you would expect and often need to be powered.

Right, you need an active HDMI-VGA converter.

You could go for this: https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-hdmi-to-vga-convertor
However the “chain” looks a bit ugly (second image) and I could imagine it is a bit unsteady.

Or you go for this: https://www.pi-supply.com/product/gert-vga-666-hardware-vga-raspberry-pi/
However this blocks almost all GPIO ports and you need to solder it on your own, as it is a kit

@McSorley @yawns thank you guys! The blue one looks exactly like something I discovered in my local shop, so it’s solved, thank you!

@bibi display port to hdmi works definitely. it’s both digital, so the adapter should be pretty simple and cheap (I use one for ~12€ from miniDP to HDMI on my laptop)
