this problem is related to the video GPU which electron tries to use by default…
you can turn it off either way
- in the script process you use to start MM add the environment setting (if u start manually from a terminal window type this command there, before doing npm start)
if you used my script to install, then the bash script used is ~/MagicMirror/installers/mm.sh
export ELECTRON_DISABLE_GPU=1- edit the ~/Magicmirror/package.json
and change the start script clause from
"start": "DISPLAY=\"${DISPLAY:=:0}\" ./node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js",to
"start": "DISPLAY=\"${DISPLAY:=:0}\" ./node_modules/.bin/electron --disable_gpu js/electron.js", ``` - in the script process you use to start MM add the environment setting (if u start manually from a terminal window type this command there, before doing npm start)

I tried your recommendation and ran export ELECTRON_DISABLE_GPU=1 and edited the ~/MagicMirror/package.json file to reflect the changes you mentioned above. However, now when I npm start within ~/MagicMirror I am seeing a black screen.
This is what is returned below after I let it run for a couple of minutes and exit.
