      My mirrors finally arrived last night. Looking really good!

      Well, at least it looked good. One is already broken. Last night when the art-forwarder arrived (it was 9 o’clock at night) everything seemed fine. Even when I took-off the bubble-wrap after the driver left everything looked fine. I just peeled of the foil a bit on one corner to get a first impression of the “mirror effect”. A bit too transparent was my first impression. OK, it was not really blackened on the display side yet. But anyway it is not installed yet as well.
      This morning I tried to remove the protection foil a bit further and noticed a tiny chip on the edge where the mirror coating came off. The glass chip was sticking to the foil. So I thought maybe glueing the chip back on with super glue would do the trick because the edges will be covered anyway on the final install. After doing so I noticed that there was a crack (“first crack”) just a couple of mm’s into the glass a tad further down the edge. When I lifted the mirror to hold it against the light to see the crack’s extent the mirror broke in half. The breaking edge was even more further down the edge. So there must have been a second crack which caused the breaking.

      I cannot prove that it actually was a transport damage, but most likely it was. Too bad that I signed the delivery papers “OK” and did not notice the cracks BEFORE I started glueing the chip back on. I guess this will leave me with nothing but a broken mirror as it will be hard to get reliable proof for the freight insurance to call in :-(
      The second mirror ist perfectly fine though.

        @tomster I’m sad to hear that one of your mirrors is broken :( How big is the one that broke and the one that didn’t?

          The broken one was 740 x 540 mm’s. The other is 1000 x 800 mm’s.

            First of all many thanks for the positive recession to the mirror and the delivery itself.

            It makes me sad to hear that your mirror has unfortunately broken :( Are you really sure that nothing happened in the night? (Children, woman / girlfriend, pets …)? What exactly do you mean with chip? In my opinion, it looks like a thumb print. Perhaps the mirror was only applied and worn on one side of the edge, and therefore the break has arisen (I refer to the lever law). Can you really rule out that it did not happen to yourself when you put the mirror from A to B at home? When I packed the mirrors all, I looked at each and could not see any damage. So it must have happened later. I’m really sorry :( :(

              Thx for your reply Chriz,

              of course I cannot outrule anything. I took the mirrors from the driver and brought them directly to my living-room. To my dearest knowledge no-one else but me has touched the mirror since. That is why I came to the assumption it might have been transport damage.
              The glass chip (~7mm in diameter) looks like a “Abplatzung” as if the mirror was put to the floor on the edge-side and some sort of tiny pebble was sitting there. I do have no real explanation for the cracks though.

                Hey there !
                I thought I should pose some pictures of my mirror. At first: Thanx to You @Goldjunge_Chriz for all Your effort. It was kind of challenging my human faith, too. Had the same crazy thoughts as @yawns had. As specially as the recipient of the mirror (and the guy who paid ;-) had no idea, that this was actually his present. (so not much financial risk,. put a friendship…so it had to end well!) So, thx god, nothing was cracked - I feel really sorry for You, @tomster !!

                Short review:
                As in the last picture, the mirror seems darker, compared to the wall,. the red shiny is the light installation and confuses a little bit.
                Comparing the first image (monitor settings eco2 of 4(no eco), brightness 45%) to the other one, You see the mirror is indeed dropping light emission significantly. In a sunny condition, You have to really concentrate to read the text. (light is coming from the ceiling and the window a meter next to the mirror’s wall. None the less, it is more important in the evening and the morning hours.

                To those who might ask. Yes, the monitor is smaller than the mirror, that is not that bad, so don’t have so much heating problem. I was been able to put a pass-par-tout around with a tiny whole for the NOIR-Cam which switches the monitor on and off.

                I want to put out, that it wasn’t that easy to fix the mirror on the frame, and I am not that sure, if my way was the best. How did You guys fix the mirror on your wodden frame??

                Thanx again Chriz for all Your effort !! I really appreciate that !!

                  If insurance won’t cover the damages - I’d like to propose a funding for @tomster as one of his mirrors broke, if there is any interest in this community for such a thing? If everyone chips in, it won’t be that much each.

                    @Binog

                    Thanks for your review and the great pictures :) Did I understand correctly that you are altogether very satisfied? As already described above, there is no mirror that works perfectly in hundreds of different light conditions. This one makes it however already quite properly and is a good mixture. If on a television for example the sunshine falls directly on it you can see nothing more ;) You can see, nothing is absolutely Perfect.

                    @Advokaten
                    Great Idea. I am in ;)

                    @all

                    New additional insights about the mirror glass we could make from the first order:

                    • The mirror glass works easily with cameras and motion detection systems behind it
                    • the mirror glass can easily be glued for the frame-free use.

                      @Goldjunge_Chriz so a PIR sensor, for example, can see through it? That’s awesome!

                        @Advokaten I guess he means motion detection with a camera
