Attach the monitor with glue to the mirror?
-
My mirror is heavier than the monitor ;) But how should I attach the mirror to the monitor if the monitor is way smaller? Any ideas?

I used some double sided tape from 3M, the product is used to attach touchscreen faces to led screens. E.g. iPad screens etc. It’s very thin and black so it cannot be seen behind the screen while keeping the screen very close. It is also very strong so be careful when you fit the two together as once stuck it stays stuck.
I placed two parallel strips on each side of the metal surround of the monitor I used for extra strength and to cover the metallic surface.
A link to the product on the US Amazon site is here.

I picked up a heavy duty mirror mount from Home Depot for attaching everything to the wall. It’s rated for 100 lbs., which should be more than enough. A quick google search for “French cleat” should give you plenty of options.
I’m building this mirror as a gift and unlike most of the examples online, it needs to look… well, frilly. Otherwise it won’t go with the rest of the decor. I picked up a backless frame from a hobby store. There’s a groove for the glass, but nothing immediately obvious for the monitor (which is significantly smaller than the glass).
I’ll let you know what I come up with. I suspect the others here have the right of it: support the monitor and use something clever to hang the glass & frame off the monitor.

Have someone make you a small frame out of hardwood … this is what I do … I’m not a programmer but I am a contractor so I can build…
My frame is made out of mahogany and I love it… but what I’m suggesting is have someone take your total thickness and dado out U shaped channels to put around both…

Yeah of course I can use a frame, but I don’t want a frame ;) I already have a mirror with a frame! I bought some strong glue and It works perfectly :)

This thread is worthless without pics … ;)
Or you could present it in the Show your mirror category -
@yawns Pictures are always cool!

One thing to note: I noticed that the mirror coating on my magic mirror is very delicate. I am not sure if other people have ordered from TAP Plastics.
Adhesives seem dangerous as it could rip that backing of the foil-like mirror coating right off!

I completed my box construction yesterday. My solution to the monitor-is-smaller-than-box problem was to build an internal bracing system using a couple of channels for the edge of the monitor. It sounds more complicated than it is.
