Where to get (cheap) acrylic mirror from in Germany
-
Hi guys,
I love the smart mirror! Do you know any place in or around Freiburg, Germany (local) or online shops that ship to German addresses where I could get a mirror from that doesn’t cost too much? (I’m a poor student, you know)
I don’t mind acrylic glass or even a good foil (I already tried a chinese one though, terrible result. Don’t waste those 3$!).
Thanks! -

This vendor was mentioned some time ago. I will call some local glaziers, but will give myspiegel.de a chance if prices are far off. -
@yawns
I have already contacted myspiegel a couple of weeks ago and they told me that their mirrors are not suitable for this project. According to them the glas materials is too dark. I think they received a lot of calls the last couple of months since this project was described on german television (“Galileo”).
The only supplier I found in Stuttgart was Glass Flüss: http://fluess-glas.de/
Guess I paid ~ 80€ for 50 x 50 cm. Hope that helps a bit. -
I also called a local glazier for the semitransparent mirror, they told me it would be around 80€ as well… I was looking for something rather like what they sell on cutplasticsheeting.co.uk (search for “two way acrylic mirror”), since that is much cheaper than a real mirror and supposed to be optically just as good.

At this moment i found following sites:

Das sind bisher die Produkte, wo ich am überlegen bin

@Blamer
That’s interesting. This guy ( http://blog.tobias-weis.de/smarter-smartmirror/ ) uses the myspiegel.de mirror and is more than happy with it. -
And definetily it looks pretty good.

Adding one more link to a mirror glas from Pilkington - which in my personal opinion - would be a perfect solution:

I am living in Munich and we have already contacted quite a few glaciers in Munich trying to buy a magic mirror glas (even contacted one glacier in Rosenheim) and up to now we have not been successful.
Honestly I am attempted to buy the glas at myspiegel.de since - at least in the Munich area - it seems impossible to find a local glacier beeing capable to supply a spy mirror.
I have read the posts mentioning Stuttgart and Switzerland, however this is a little bit too far for me just to purchase the glas.
Any comments/ success story from someone in Munich area more than welcome -
For what did you exactly ask?
Spionspiegel?
2-Wege-Spiegel?
Venezianischer Spiegel?I made the experience that most off the glaciers had no clue but after i explained it or used the names above, they had some solution for me…
-
Thanks for the fast reaction:
We did ask for Spionspiegel and - after having the feeling that it might not be completely clear - explicitely for the Pilkington glas, however did not (yet) find someone capable to sell what we are looking for. -
@Steff next time try it with the other buzzwords.
I think pilkington glas is just a brand. So if they don’t have a distributor, which sells pilkington, you have a problem. -
Good morning,
I think I will try the acrylic glas from myspiegel.de and hope it would do his job good.
-
Kindly apologize, seems like the link was not really working:

That´s the EMail I received from Myspiegel.de. I have also added a screenshot of the datasheet of their mirrors they have sent me. Hope that helps.
Frank

@Blamer So either you get a bright screen or you can just use it in a dark room
-
But, which mirror are the other guys using?
Why it is so difficult to find a fitting mirror in Germany? -
A bright screen could be a solution. I must say that I did not test the mirrors of Myspiegel.de since I found a good solution in a local shop here in Stuttgart.
I did not make the experience that it is difficult to get a mirror in Stuttgart. But the prices the local glazier would have charged me for a 50 x 50cm mirror were around 150€! I found out that most glazier here do have the same sub supplier, called a glas shop (Google: Search for Glasgroßhandel + city). So I organized the address of the sub supplier (for Stuttgart: http://fluess-glas.de/), gave them a call and asked them, whether it is o.k. if I purchase the mirror directly from them. It ended up that I payed 80 € for the mirror, and it works excellent!
Steff: If worse comes to worst there is a glas shop 100km away from Munich in my home town in Ulm: http://www.glastroesch.de/glas/540-spionspiegel.html
-
@deepshades So did you buy one yet?
-
@marcel0024 no, haven’t bought one yet. Still thinking about the right fitting mirror, hate it.

I don’t get the point why myspiegel should not work. I’ve ordered last friday and will get it in this week. I will report.
But myspiegel seems to block each special request. I also asked for painted acryl for my kitchen but with my paint (same as kitchen cabinets) Their answer was in just one sentence: no.
Maybe they don’t like special requests and tell no before thinking about it.
