    • What is the 'best' way to install magic mirror?

      Hello,

TL:DR I want to know the difference between these three install methods for magic mirror 1. Manual Installation, 2. Automatic Installation Scriptsm, 3. MagicMirrorOS.

      Background information

I first found out about the magic mirror about 3 years again. Back then I had never used Linux and didn’t have clue what I was doing.

Over those 3 years I have learnt so much and have come back in the hope that I am now capable enough to be able to complete a magic mirror.

When I just read the install instructions I see things have changed since I last used magic mirror.

I see there are now a number of different ways you can install the magic mirror software.

      1). Manual Installation.

      2). Automatic Installation Scripts.

      3). MagicMirrorOS.

4). Docker Image I’m ruling out docker for the time being as I don’t know how to use it.

      My Question

What is the difference between installing with these three methods?

Is there anything I need to be aware of, if I install with any of these methods?

Thanks in advance for your help

    • Should this be happening at start up [request for information]

      Hello,

      Background info

I burned magic mirror to an SD card a few months ago but then never did anything else with it.

Today I put the SD card in my raspberry pi.

The system booted up and then took me to a command line asking for a log in.

I don’t remember having to log in the last time I set it up.

      My questions

Is this a glitch or is there a default log in I need to enter?

    • How do I exit full screen after boot up?

      Hello Forum,

      Background info
I have search Google for the answer but everything I try isn’t working.

I have magic mirror boot up to full screen.

I have only just installed the software and it boots up to a full size blank screen. (I’m not sure if that is what is meant to happen?)

      My Question
How do I exit out of full screen mode and get back to my Raspbian desktop?

@pugsly said in Share your config.js right here....:

@1uke_ I would also add a place to download the custom.css file as well.

Perhaps that could be a button below the download config file?

      Hey @lolobyte, @cowboysdude, @Fonfon, @Mykle1, @slametps @Jopyth, @broberg @johnnyboy

      Thanks to everyone for replying.

For this to work I was thinking it could be different to a forum and perhaps needs an interface and layout of it’s own.

Something visual so it’s easy to pick out the information and see how it looks.

I have mocked something up - would love to get your feedback on this

    • RE: Share your config.js right here....

@lolobyte I think it needs to be a downloadable file, then everyone get’s the best of both worlds.

People can still see and pick out the bits they want once they have downloaded it.

    • Is there a place where people can share their config files?

      Hello MagicMirror Builders

      A little background info

I’m new to the world of smart mirrors and just got MagicMirror2 software installed in my Raspberry Pi.

I been playing with the config.js file and learning some new bits, which got me thinking.

      My thoughts

Although I am enjoying learning to adapt the config file. It would be super useful if their was a repository somewhere that let people share their config files so others could download them.

      My question

Is there already a place where people can share their config files for MagicMirror2?

If not would anyone be interested in creating something so we can show and share modified config files.

      Hi thanks for the reply,

I actually see the glaringly obvious mistake I made.

~ $ was already at the command line and I was retyping it.

Thanks for helping me with this @in_a_days.

I am now having a new issue getting the MagicMirror to start. I wondered if you might look over the problem. You can read about it here

    • Issue with starting Magic Mirror - How do I uninstall magic mirror? [More details inside]

      Hello,

I am having an issue starting my new magic mirror install. See image below for error message details

error text from Raspbian command line

I have found a similar problem and solution in another forum

      Question

How to I go about uninstalling magic mirror so that I can try to install it again?

I was tempted to just delete all the files and put them in to trash but I am not 100% sure if this is the correct was to uninstall.

      Thank you for your help.

    • Mirror won't start - Command line error [Details inside]

      Hello magic mirror forum

      Background info

Please forgive me for asking very basic questions I am very new to the Raspberry Pi and Linux, I have been trying to read through doucmentation and various forums for the last hour and a half and can’t seem to get to the bottom of this issue so I was hoping someone might be kind enough to help me out.

I have used the auto install method for the MagicMirror.

      curl -sL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MichMich/MagicMirror/master/installers/raspberry.sh | bash

I have then browsed through the files and changed the config file to

      config.js

I used the windows browser rather than using the command line to change the file name (I’m not sure if this matters but thought I would mention it just in case.

      Problem

When I type this in to the command line

      ~ $ cd MagicMirror/config

      I get the following message

      bash: /home/pi: Is a directory

Can anyone tell me what is going on and how I fix it please?

      Thanks for your help :)
