2 way mirror with smartglass
-
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I have the following plan I am trying to realize.
I have a guest bathroom in the entrance hallway in my house.
My plan is to put a full length 2 way mirror(roughly 30x72) towards the hallway, and then have a smartglass on the inside of the guest bathroom. Put a “do not touch” button on the inside of the guest bathroom, that once pressed, opens the smartglass so you can see straight into the hallway.
Has anybody done something similar, and can give me some tips?
I was thinking of building a 2X4 frame to insert in the wall. Paint it black on the inside and glue the smarglass and 2 way mirror into this frame before I attach some crowning around it. both will be recessed to flush inside the frame.
Any thoughts?

@kjellfinn does the inside glass open and u are looking thru the two way?
if u glue it, it’s not opening. unless the whole inside picture frame mirror is opening…
certainly in some lighting conditions the two way will be less solid from the outside when u open it from the inside. people will be able to see thru to you…
maybe I want security glass which has the reflective surface on the outside.
this is the rest, where u out your fingernail against the glass. if it doesn’t touch the reflection it’s a mirror, if it DOES touch the reflection then someone can see thru from the other side

@sdetweil Inside smartglass opens on inside of guest bathroom and looks into the hallway trough the two way. Still looking into the smartglass premade vs film. Obviously i do not want people to see trough the two way into the guest bathroom.

@kjellfinn you would have to talk to a glass/mirror company.,.
