    Hello!
I’m building my first magic mirror using an oval mirror (Mirastar SGG) and a back panel in 5mm MDF wood laser cut to this shape to house a 27" display:

    the outside dimension is 160cm x 50cm.

Now I am a bit unsure about some next steps regarding how to connect the mirror with the panel:

    1. the panel is wood light brown at the moment, does it make sense to paint it black (given that the display will be black when off) or is it not worth it?
    2. I prefer to avoid mechanical solutions, due to the weight of the mirror and the fact that the anchors won’t be directly connected to the wall, but just to the wood panel, so I’d go with glue or adesive strips. Considering the previous point, which silicone or adesive to use: transparent or black. Which one would you recommend to not damage the mirror and at the same time not been seen from the front?

Regarding the color of glue I’m reading opposite opinions: the mirror provided told me that there shouldn’t be issues with the transparent one, but I have the feeling they don’t have too much experience with 2-way mirrors.
BUT here in the forum I’ve read that black one is better if you have a black background.
BUT most silicone I’ve seen they are not suitable to be used on painted wood.

Sooo you see I’m not really sure how to proceed

@danybony painted wood closes the adhesive ability to secure.
and i personally think both will show (always does for me)

so i think a mechanical attachment is the only choice

I see, thanks for the explanation.

@sdetweil in the end I followed your advice and used some mechanical, metal clips to connect the mirror to the back panel. I’ll show the final result soon!
