How to connect portable monitor to Rasp Pi 5 with single USB-C cable?
-
I’ve searched YouTube and Google for a solution.
I want to build a Magic Mirror and keep all connections to the Pi 5 very compact by using the power cord to the Pi and a single cable to the monitor. This avoids multiple power cables. I do have a few other RPi’s such as a Pi 1 2011 and B+ v1.2 2014, if those are a better choice, although I’d prefer to stay with the 5.
I have this [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095GG31KX](link url) portable monitor. It supports Thunderbolt 3.0/4.0 or USB 3.1 Type-C DP ALT-MODE.
My laptop sends both video and power to the monitor using this single USB-C cable [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CY32TRR](link url)
The following 2 videos are the closest I could find to a solution to the issue below the YouTube links. The small board shown at the 00:20 minute mark in the 1st video link below (from 4-months ago) isn’t currently available and I’ve asked when an ETA would be. His project also requires this board, which is available. [https://shop.getubo.com/products/connec … 4075662611](link url)

For instance, would one of these work, perhaps the PCIe style? The information provide is limited for my knowledge base to interpret.

@CaptainKen you can also bring a short extension cord as the single power cord from the wall…
both devices don’t take much powerWe currently don’t have much touch support… a few modules support buttons to signal other modules
no general touch support, but MM is javascript in a browser, so you CAN built input type forms for data collection.all the apis the base consumes are all output/read only.
you can look thru the show your mirror section to see what others have done

@sdetweil Thanks for your input.
Regarding the single extension cord, I’ve used that approach many times in the past. Just trying to avoid all those cables and adapters.
At this time I’m not interested in Touch screen. That might change sometime in the future for another build. Thank you for pointing out what’s possible with forms input.
I don’t understand this statement: “all the apis the base consumes are all output/read only”
I neglected to mention that I did search the Show Your Mirror section a little for “USB C” before posting, but only got a few non-applicable results. Wasn’t sure what other search terms would be better?

I don’t understand this statement: “all the apis the base consumes are all output/read only”
it was just to clarify that whatever apis the base MM modules use are all output only

@CaptainKen I might search on USB and see if any of those hit
