      hey,

im new on this forum so i hope you all can help me out!..

i builded my first magic mirror couple of weeks ago.the setup now is a rpi 5 as server and a rpi 3 for the mirror itself. it works seemless BUT,

i took an old lcd monitor (24") and disembled it, after that fitted it in a wooden frame etc etc. loks nice. for the glass in the first option i took was plexiglass with available foil from the hardware store.
result, not flat, to much mirror in day time and to dark. so i had to put a screensaver and white borders on the HA dashboard to make it even visible.
yesterday finished my 2nd attempt, 4mm glass with better foil, less mirror effect more light transmission. but foggy mirror effect. black is not black and not statisfied at all (even worse imo)
      foil:

so here is the deal, i would love to still use the same monitor. or do i have to switch to an oled or anything i cant place a bigger one on that spot in the house.
second of that, what would be a nice glass to start out with… i seen some links on the forum :
      https://www.brigla-shop.de/glas-nach-mass/spionspiegel/
      and
      https://www.myspiegel.de/spionspiegel-pg-2102.html

i love to hear what you all recomend, all tips etc are welcome! i will post some pictures also

thx in advance from the netherlands
      ian

@ian1266 I don’t have an answer for your country.

but you’ve discovered the same things that almost every one has,
plexi is flexy, not flat, and it shows
foil is not the same as glass coating

generally it is NOT the physical monitor

there was a guy here, who was helpful in sourcing 2 way mirror glass in Europe. I haven’t seen him post recently…

        https://twowaymirrors.com
in the US is the one that has the best supplies (and costs more for it too!)

I’ll see if I can find his posts…

here is a link to that topic… it hasn’t had a post in a year now

you listed the two from Germany I would reference

@ian1266 no idea on the glass… I never did mine… bought foil, but never tried after all the feedback.
and i don’t NEED another mirror anywhere… (live alone, know what I look like!! lol)
so just use without mirrored glass

Hahaha fair enough. I dont “need” a mirror. Just addicted to new toys. Als upgraded the old Tuya system to a decent ha smart system. Was kind of finished building smart stuff in the Tuya limits.
