I am located in Russia, I’ve never ordered anything from Amazon, but I think of ordering the mirror that you suggested. Does it has goog reflection quality?
I’ve also ordered https://www.aliexpress.com/item/300mm-x-300mm-x-3-0mm-Acrylic-PMMA-Plexiglass-Partial-Translucent-Mirrored-Sheets-for-Infinity-illusion/32398641282.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.KXPvKF this, do not know about this one
-
BTW, what is the difference between 3mm and 1mm?
-
@Sultan91 the thickness.
When it comes to plastic mirrors you want the thicker panels, because if it’s to flimsy and have no or little support behind it you will get distortions in the reflection.
-
@broberg Ok I see. I’ve checked mirror from Amazon it seems really nice but 50$ for for 24x12 seems litle bit costly
-
@Sultan91 I paid 140$ for a 47x23 real glass mirror at a local glass company.
-
Wow, you must be from US or Europe) I think there can cheaper options.
-
@Sultan91 when it comes to glass and mirrors the phrase “you get what you pay for” really is spot on, there aren’t that many manufacturers of “spyglass” so the prices are mostly the same, world wide.
The cheapest option however is foil, but it’s a pita to get it looking nice. Second cheapest is the acrylic mirrors.
And size matters, bigger custom size mirrors = more money, there are smaller pieces made in pre determined sizes to cut costs.
-
@broberg Yeah, I started with the 1mm and it was more like a funhouse mirror so I bought the 3mm and it worked great. I also didn’t want to let the 1mm that I bought go to waste so I attached it to a piece of glass to keep it firmly in place and it worked out pretty well.
-
@ottobot thats clever :D
-
@Sultan91 It’s definitely a little pricey, but sometimes convenience outweighs cost. I can get 4608 square inches of 3mm for $0.04 per square inch, but that doesnt account for waste. Or I can get 288 square inches for $0.17 per square inch. Sometimes I can find a frame at the goodwill where the cost can be justified because I don’t have to spend the time and money making a custom frame.
-
@broberg LOL. I’m a cheap bastard and don’t like letting things go to waste. Same reason that I won’t use a pi3 for my mirrors. It’s still cheaper to use a zero even after the adapters and everything. I just wish I could find someone that has them in stock for less than $20 atm.
-
@Sultan91 Just ordered one. I’ll let you know in 12-20 days how it turns out ;)
-
@ottobot Wow ok, nice to have feedback from you soon!
-
Just got my mirror in the mail today. Seems like it took forever and a day to get here to the US, but it’ll work. Probably won’t buy another one but that’s because I have other options that can get them to me faster.

@ottobot I still have not received my plexiglass mirror from China, however i didn’t wait and ordered one mirror locally from Moscow. They are making an titanium spraying on the surface of ordinary glass. So it looks like this : )

Finally recievied my mail from China! Good quality of image, except it was litle bit bended due to small size. http://imgur.com/6pjCJS6 - Photo;

I have a few plexiglass plates from an older project, so I think I’ll try it with foil first. These guys offer several different foils and they show the foil’s reflective abilities.
