    Hi!

I’m building my own touch screen magic mirror, and have just ordered this capacitive touch foil: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/24-inch-transparent-touch-screen-foil_60536857738.html

I know that the above will work on two way mirror glass since I’ve confirmed that with the manufacturer. But to get a glass sheet in the size I want is expensive.

I’m wondering if a capacitive touch foil will work behind a sheet of acrylic instead of glass? Has anybody here done that before? And if it doesn’t, would it work behind a regular sheet of a glass with a two way mirror film applied?

    Thank you,
    Chris

      Hi @cwhite92

If it works with the glass two way mirror it will work with the acrylic two way mirror. But from the description it goes behind the acrylic? So your finger would be touching the mirror coated surface of the acrylic? The acrylic tends to scratch rather easily and may not be the best long term solution. The glass coating is much more durable! Here are some clearance sizes,

But yes it would still work!

        Hey Maria,

Yeah the touch foil from the Alibaba link gets sandwiched between the glass/acrylic and the LCD monitor.

I think I’m just going to wait for the touch foil to arrive and then try it with a sheet of acrylic.

Thank you for the link, but those prices are a bit too high for me! :)

        Chris

@cwhite92 No problem Chris! Completely understandable. I would be purchasing the acrylic as well if I didn’t work here!

@Fifin404 I can with high probablity tell you that he didn’t get it to work. Why? Because I havr used the dame type of touch foil he links and it Doesn’t work when placed beneath something that is metallic (which a mirror coat usually is).

@broberg Thanks for that info! I’ve been already tempted to give that a try in a future upgrade.
