I got it working with a little help from the AlexaPi gitter.im group. Changing the output handler from vlc to sox was the answer I needed.
-
@lucallmon I was having the same issue. changed to sox and it worked once for me. now I also hear the hello and one time i was able to ask her a question…but now it almost seems like the mic stopped working…grrr

@cyberphox @johnnyboy These issues are definitely AlexaPi issues you are having. If your looking for help i would post on the Alexa-pi/alexapi github or talk on the gitter mentioned above. They will be able to help you for sure as I don’t know that much about the audio, mine just seemed to work for some reason

I’m sure it’s probably the PS Eye mic and the usb mic you have coming (that I ordered too) will work fine. For example, when I go into aslamixer and try to hit f6 to change to the Eye to increase the volume, it crashes with an invalid argument error…

@johnnyboy lol…the microphone icon is back now with a slash through it and I’m not even being greeted with a hello when the Pi boots now…off to the gitter maybe!
-
@cyberphox are you using any other sound modules? AlexaPi does not work with MMM-Voice. Found that out the hard way. I had to wipe my SD card and start over.
-
Nope. no other modules…it seems the AlexaPi service is not starting…getting an error…seriously may just use my Dot…if i did’t like that damn microphone icon so much
-
@cyberphox jump on the gitter.im site. I’ll try to help you out.
-
i’m probably gonna wait until my Kinobo USB mic arrives…i know that sound work as opposed to this PS Eye

Ironically, I decided to reinstall it last night before bed. I had edited yaml.config last time for the device type but this time i actually selected magic mirror. It started to work again. LOL. sound was a little choppy so i changed playback from vlc to sox. Mind you I haven’t gone out to check it yet this morning…hahah
-
@cyberphox hi! What do you mean when you say “I actually selected Magic Mirror”? Thanks!
-
@borrigan During Alexa-Pi setup you can choose a platform. Don’t pick
raspberrypi, usemagicmirrorregardless of where the software is running. -
@clumsy_ninja thank you! I think I found the config line and changed it to magicmirror. Still see nothing in Magic Mirror interface. I will keep testing. Still need to resolve microphone input problems :(
