Not sure if this is the place to ask this, if not I apologise. Are all the modules on the 3rd party modules page still ready to use?

Reason I ask is that many have not been updated in several years and seemingly rely on outside resources. Is there anything I can look for to show me that it is no longer good?

@DownfieldComa no… if it works, it does what it does…

there are lots of modules that don’t report errors,

        more that don’t handle errors,

and some (quite a few) that don’t record what libraries they use (and we deleted some, so the modules crash, and then black screen)
        see https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/15778/fix-for-black-screen-in-2-16-and-later

I try to get common errors posted and pinned into the troubleshooting section

there are no standards for ‘quality’ in a module, they were/are mostly done by folks who want something for themselves. many with no programming experience, and certainly few with long lifetime module experience

@DownfieldComa no, there is no list that will show you what still works, or works with corrections, or doesn’t work…

@sdetweil Okay, I wasn’t expecting a list per se, but that would be awesome.

I was more asking any log message/error that would give me any insight to it being a dead module vs an error on my side.

            Thanks

@sdetweil Gotcha. Makes sense. Just trying to look through some things as I update my display. Several wanted additions that are 3-4yrs out from the last update.

Going to look at that post and through the forums some more.

                Thanks again.

@DownfieldComa Generally, the old modules that I wanted to use, I tended to fix myself… but, yeah, there’s lots of busted modules there.

@sdetweil Quite literally, I learned coding from doing that. :)
