I have followed all the steps in https://raspberrypi.tilburgs.com/upgrade-stretch-to-buster/

But at the end when i check everything is all right I get
      release 9,6
      codename stretch

it seems i haven’t upgraded anything.

any ideas for normal people without indeph knowledge of coding, linux and pi?

many thanks for your assistance! very much appreciated!

@Canguingo buster is also outdated, bullseye is the current release.

I don’t think there is an upgrade path.

so I think you have to start w a new SD flash

I have some scripts that can help

backup the current mm config and modules list
install mm on the new os
restore the config and modules list

        see https://github.com/sdetweil/MagicMirror-backup-restore

        and to install mm

ok, ok… just recovering from the shock.

When you say start with a new SD, you mean reinstall everything again? So delete mij SD card and reinstall everything? Pi and MM?
            OMG! I don;t think I can survive this…

So what would be the process? First backup, your link.
            Then …?

            Thanks for your assistance… o my…

@Canguingo yes, and I’d use a different SD card, so IF you needed something you could get it…

backup the MM installation… I don’t backup the FILES of the modules, just the github links, config.js and custom.css

the backup allows you to upload the saved stuff to a github repo of your own… then restore can get from there… (no separate card or server needed to save the info ) … but you have to have a github userid…and know your security token…

then I can pull down the backup from github, and put back all the modules, config, css… after mm is installed…

the backup doesn’t save locally developed modules (not on github) or source of modules that might have been changed (shouldn’t do this unless you know what trouble it brings…, like now!)

but I can get you 95%+ back to new OS version and your MM config in an hour or 2.

@Canguingo buster was the active os release 2 years ago. it’s bullseye now

time passes and things keep moving along.
fixes, enhancements, new hardware, new software function. it’s all churning every day.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there is no official upgrade path from one release to another. There is lots of good assistance on the Raspberry Pi Fourm.
