    • RE: Electron CPU usage

@strawberry-3.141 thank you for the quick reply. Just to confirm: where am I entering @types/node. Sorry for being a noob at this. Thanks for your help!

EDIT: I got the node/type to work by updating using sudo npm install npm@latest -g

Now when I run sudo npm install in the magic mirror folder I get an error code LIFECYCLE. errno 1. “electron@1.7.6” postinstall ‘node install.js’.

‘failed at the electron@1.7.6 postinstall script’.

      Any ideas?

EDIT2: used sudo npm install -g electron --unsafe-perm=true.

This seemed to work. I will monitor performance and let you all know.

      EDIT3:

Been monitoring it for an hour or so now. CPU temp has not gone over 50. While before it was around a constant 60 - 65.
Compliments and Newsfeed animations are SUPER SMOOTH.

I can confirm that using MM 2.1.0 with Electron 1.4.15 has insanely improved performance! Thanks to everyone in this thread and to @Mykle1 for pointing this thread out for me.

I just have ONE final question guys. I used my custom.css file from my newer build and all was fine after I removed the ‘everyday’ segment of the code from the compliments module. HOWEVER…I notice in the background (If i tab to terminal) This message pops up:

“Fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git”

However, it does not seem to affect the mirror? Or not in any way I can see? Is there any way I can pinpoint how this message is being generated? Like I said, it does not appear to affect any of my modules.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Cheers all!

    • RE: Electron CPU usage

Just a quick post in an attempt to re-create the above steps. I get to the part where I have to type “npm install && npm start” and I get an error 404 ‘Not Found’. ‘types/node’ is not in the npm registry. ‘It was specified as a dependency of ‘electron’’

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

      Thanks.

    • RE: Question regarding "System Load" and the "CPU temp" when MM is running.

@Mykle1 thank you I shall do! Another quick question. Can I keep my config.js file I have for the newest install? I have it backed up and saved. Can I just use that for when I downgrade? It will save me having to re-add all the modules and custom compliments etc.

    • RE: Question regarding "System Load" and the "CPU temp" when MM is running.

Thanks @Sean and @Mykle1 for your replies! I really appreciate it.

I think my problem DOES relate to what has been discussed in that thread, so I am going to try the fresh install with the lower MM version and electrum version 1.4.15. I will post my results in that thread.

A quick noob question sorry, how do I install an older specific MM version, like the one state din the other topic?

      Thanks!

    • Question regarding "System Load" and the "CPU temp" when MM is running.

      Hi all,

I have some small questions in regards to my Raspberry Pi 3. I have nearly finished setup and am waiting for the 2 way mirror to arrive so I’ve done some tests with the Pi 3 running Magic Mirror.

What I noticed is that the CPU temp idles around 45 then when I run the MM it seems to stay around 57 - 65 degrees C. But the system load is always around 2 - 2.7 when running the MM.

I don’t have THAT many modules running, my question is: is this normal for a Pi3 to have a system load that high and a constant temperature of around 60 when the MM is running? It’s not even in the frame or anything yet either. I am going to purchase a heatsink and fan just incase.

For a fan, I was considering this one, would this do the trick?

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    • RE: No Weather Showing?

@glenntsharkey Hey mate, just giving you a piece of mind, you are not alone! I think in the most recent MM version there is a problem with both weather modules. But not to worry!

I switched to this module 3 days ago:

I can confirm for you it’s working and it’s bloody fantastic. Let me know if you want any info or help or changing the config file.
