@fribse I don’t think so? It’s installed on a pi3b. Still not able to find the pi… I think I’m maybe missing something in config?

Edit to say I can cast to my Nvidia shield… Strange that it works but not screencast…

    • RE: Voice assistant

@sdetweil so I’m looking at MMM-GoogleAssistant which I’ve got up and running

Not having the same luck with assistant 2display…

I can’t seem to cast, play YouTube or Spotify using this.

If I say something like Jarvis play cat videos on YouTube. The assistant opens up and says here’s something I found on YouTube…

But nothing plays… have I missed something?

@sdetweil hoping you can help with this…

I’ve tried changing address to “0.0.0.0” and ipWhitelist to []

When I use the youtube app to cast, the pi/mirror doesn’t show up?

    • Voice assistant

      Hey,

I’m hoping you can help. I’m trying to get a working voice assistant for the mirror.

I’ve tried a few with varying success.

Mmm-mirrormirroronthewall - seem to have created the skill and it responds on other devices… However nothing happens on the pi/mirror

Mmm-awesome-alexa - I get so far but I can’t seem to get Alexa voice service to work.

Mmm-AlexaControl - got this working. Love that I can turn the monitor off and on via Alexa devices…

So whilst the last one is cool, I’m hoping to do a bit more… Ideally I’m looking to play music and YouTube on the mirror via a voice assistant… It would be cool if it could answer questions too…

      Is this possible?

    • RE: First time install

      @sdetweil so worst luck…

I got to the end of your install and my power went out.

I’d just selected yes to boot to the mirror and I think pm2?

Was that the end of your script and is there a way for me to go back to run that install…

    • First time install

I’m following the first time manual install guide here

      https://docs.magicmirror.builders/getting-started/installation.html

So I’ve installed raspberry pi os. (it doesn’t say this on the guide… But I assume that’s how I get terminal up and running?

I’ve then followed the steps… When I input npm install… I get an error saying -bash: npm: command not found…

      Can you help?

    • RE: Display

Also I’ve gone for a bigger sized acrylic than monitor, with my thought being the top half is where my smart info would display, 42 x 59cm will be my dimensions…

So if you have any hints for housing this and attaching the stripped back monitor I’d love to hear them

    • RE: Display

Thank you for all these ideas they’ve really helped.

So my progress so far is I’ve stripped back a 17" LCD monitor.

Ordered 2 way mirror acrylic and I’m loving the power idea above so going to look into that

My next question is what’s the best way to fix the monitor to the acrylic.

The original link suggested duck tape… But would that be enough for the weight of the monitor?

Then my last problem is the frame… But I think I need to sort the above first and then get a frame once I’ve got it configured and attached to the acrylic

    • Display

I’m having trouble getting started with this project.

I can’t seem to figure out what kind of display I need. I looked at this guide

      https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/articles/build-a-magic-mirror

But it has a 7inch display… Which is tiny.

I’m looking at monitors… But I’m confused as to how you’d power that and a pi. Seperately I’d assume? (Which leaves the problem of hiding cables.

Also I’m reading I should use an hdmi monitor but some are better than others for this?

I’m really looking for something between A4/A3 size…

I’m a total newbie at this and need your advice… Please help.

First time building this and I’m trying to decide what to do.

I read this article… (Hopefully I’m allowed to link this - apologies if not)

      https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/articles/build-a-magic-mirror

Which looks like a very simple way to start the process. I’m based in the UK and the main issue I have with this is the size of the mirror. Id really like something a4 sized as a minimum.

I’ve spent hours looking for screens, acrylic and frames and got no where fast.

I wondered if you had any recommendations? In particular for these 3 things.

Would love some help as I’m really excited to try this
