Okay, getting back to this. @sdetweil thanks for the tip, I bought a 32gb usb stick and made my Pi3B+ boot from it. Complete new setup of Raspbian Buster. Boots up fine.
Complete new setup of MM2 with your script, works fine.
Reinstalled modules and config, works fine.

Cooling with passive cooling case, Temp not higher than 55°C.

Setup a reboot cronjob every 6 hours.

Still, the system keeps freezing. Sometimes after minutes, sometimes after days.

Only other software installed is the lights-out client (which needs mono). (green-it-software.com/)

I have no idea on what to look for or what to do to fix this :-(

Whole system. So, even a cronjob with sudo reboot every x hours does not help.
As the Pis came bundles with some noname SD cards, I just ordered 2 new cards to rule out any problems with them.

    • MM keeps freezing

      Hi,

I have 2 MagicMirrors installed. Both are running fine until they freeze. Freezing may happen after 5 minutes, often it happens when I xrdp into the desktop, but this is not a neccessary condition. It may also happen after 6 hours or a day. But it happens. First I thought this was a cooling problem, I set the soft_temp_limit to 70 degrees Celsius and bought cooling cases, temp is around 48-55°C now when running for hours, but it still happens and I have no idea why.

      My setup (2x the same):
      Raspberry Pi 3B+ with 16GB Class 10 microSD-Card in a cooling case
WLAN Connection (ethernet not available at the MM mounting points)
      Latest Raspbian 10 image.

Installation of MM with Sam Detweiler’s installation script. pm2 autostart enabled and working, screensaver switched off.

      Active modules:

      • Alert
      • Updatenotification
      • MMM-COVID-19
      • MyCovid19
      • MMM-WeatherOrNot
      • clock
      • calendar
      • MMM-Vrr
      • MMM-PlexNowPlaying
      • MMM-News

Currently disabled modules (by setting disabled: true in config.js)

      • MMM-AVstock
      • MMM-Rain-Radar

Each module is working. I have no idea why MM is freezing (and while I am writing this, one of the Mirrors froze again). Can someone walk me through troubleshooting this, it is very annoying.

    • RE: Cooling Raspi

Thanks. Have a case now with passive cooling that fits, Temp around 48°C.
Unfortunately, it still freezes and I dont know why, will open a new thread for this.

I have several cases here, that’s not a problem. There is not enough space between frame and wall.

AS I have no case, I have no way to fix the fan without touching anything and then it is scratching on the surface or is vibrating. Tried it a lot, always too loud. No idea on how to get it fixed.

    • RE: Cooling Raspi

      Thanks for your hints.
Well, it does freeze at these temperatures. And I already have a cronjob which reboots the pi every 6 hours, does not help. No freezing when cooling with a fan, but far too noisy, so no, doesnt seem to be a memory problem rather than a heating problem, so I do not think that setting up higher throtteling temperatures will do any good.

    • Cooling Raspi

      Hi,

I have a cooling Problem with mit MagicMirror. I run on raspi 3b+, raspi overheats (Temp> 60°C) and will eventually freeze.

I’ve tried with a fan, which helps, but as the Pi is without a case attached to the back of a frame, it is almost impossible to fix the fan so that it does not touch anything else, so it gets very noisy. There is not much space between wall and back of the frame, so that a standard case will not fit behind it.

Has anyone found a working solution to this, possibly passive cooling? (A normal, small heat sink is not enough, already tried that.

On Amazon, I only found passive cooling cases for model 4, and I wonder if the would fit anyway.

    • RE: MMM-AVStock returning empty values

      …which gives me

"Thank you for using Alpha Vantage! Our standard API call frequency is 5 calls per minute and 500 calls per day. Please visit https://www.alphavantage.co/premium/ if you would like to target a higher API call frequency."

What it would also do with all other values. But these work! Only 6AQQ.FRK results in not being shown and I have no Idea why. (also all other markets for 6AQQ)

      Any ideas?
