Magic Mirror @ Munich
Basically I rebuilt our Magic Mirror monitor in a very similar way like @MichMich. I did order the same 24" monitor at Amazon (thanks to @MichMich for the great instruction). The installation of the software on the raspi3 was really simple and showed great results on a test monitor.
What I could not imagine that it was nearly a nightmare to get a spy glass at a local glacier in Munich, however after many mails and phone calls, I was able to find a local glacier. (More details on this part of the story here.
As promised in this separate thread here are some pictures of my MagicMirror.
Let us start with the final result, and I am more than happy with it, the wife acceptance factor is great as well and especially my nine year old boy loves it, since he helped to do a lot of the assembly stuff together with me :).
You can see at the right bottom a small IR sensor, since I do not have a 3D printer, I have sawn the casing yesterday manually, it still needs to be painted, currently I am testing it and trying to get the module running.
What I did differently is the way to mount the mirror. I am using two pieces of wood cut in 45° angle enforcing a direct fit and very reliable and stable mounting position of the MagicMirror. Details you can see in the following pictures. Note: If you are wondering about the power supply, I simply drilled a hole through the wall, since a power plug was much nearer that at the mounting position.
The interior looks like this:
There is one thing I am unsure about. I have noticed that the controller unit (inverter/ controller) of the monitor has slightly shifted. Maybe I “pressed” the HDMI cable too much and therefore it got dislocated. You can see this in the last picture.
Did anyone of you observe this as well ? I am considering to stabilize it again mechanically by construction something in wood.In case you have questions do not hesitate :).
Regards

@yawns
I picked up the mirror myself. They had a sample in their glasshop which I tested with my setup directly in their shop. Since I did like the result, I decided to order it from them. Stefan -

@dbahn25
I did ask Several glaciers in Munich for an offer of the Pilkington glass, however no one was able to provide an offer ( seems to be difficult to get a " Grosshändler" beeing able to sell this glass.
@yawns
Kindly apologize for the late answer, I just received the mirror and the invoice last week and I was on travel for several days. I paid tremendous 120 Eur for the glass, however, I “just wanted” it and they were extremely friendly, I can only tell you that it is from Glass Fuess, 6mm thickness, I do not have more data, but I can tell you, it really looks great. Currently assembling the frame, will post some pictures latest in two weeks, Regards Stefan -
RE: Where to get (cheap) acrylic mirror from in Germany
@Steff Ordered mine today at http://www.glas-schaubeck.de/, 6mm thickness, could verify it beforehand with a sample, will get it next week, once done with it, will post it in the built mirror section.

RE: Where to get (cheap) acrylic mirror from in Germany
In fact we are two guys in Munich looking to solve the problem. My colleague did not wnat to spend any more time, he ordered “his” mirror at myspiegel, so we will get some update from him soon. Secondly I spent some time to investigate further at the weekend. Contacted glastroesch in Ulm, they refused to sell to private persons ( thanks for the hint @Blamer ), after some friendly email discussions they recommended me a local glasshop in Munich Allach, they have been very friendly, they have one sample I can test, the only drawback will be a 40 min drive for me, so I have to coordinate this between job and family, once I do have some news here, I will post it.
In parallel i have written to some of the acrylic glas vendors noted in one of the previous posts. The answers from ALL of them was negative for 2 way mirrors ( modulor.de, buskunstoffhandel.de, expresszuschnitt.de). All of them replied me that they do not offer two way mirrors with acrylic glass.
Will keep you updated… -

Kindly apologize, seems like the link was not really working:

RE: Where to get (cheap) acrylic mirror from in Germany
Thanks for the fast reaction:
We did ask for Spionspiegel and - after having the feeling that it might not be completely clear - explicitely for the Pilkington glas, however did not (yet) find someone capable to sell what we are looking for. -
RE: Where to get (cheap) acrylic mirror from in Germany
Adding one more link to a mirror glas from Pilkington - which in my personal opinion - would be a perfect solution:

I am living in Munich and we have already contacted quite a few glaciers in Munich trying to buy a magic mirror glas (even contacted one glacier in Rosenheim) and up to now we have not been successful.
Honestly I am attempted to buy the glas at myspiegel.de since - at least in the Munich area - it seems impossible to find a local glacier beeing capable to supply a spy mirror.
I have read the posts mentioning Stuttgart and Switzerland, however this is a little bit too far for me just to purchase the glas.
Any comments/ success story from someone in Munich area more than welcome
