    @N6NG think iOS vs AndroidOS.

Pi (iOS side) does all their own production, and nobody else copies it for their own products. The hardware is locked down somewhat.

Arduino (AndroidOS side) which is covered on a literal poo-ton of products, so you can get Arduino built into anything - causing a constant glut of hardware and pretty much continuous production.

The "E" in "Javascript" stands for "Easy"

I kept an eye on RPiLocator when I was getting my home assistant setup going. It took a couple of weeks for one to come into stock (UK) but I got one in the end.

Try a OrangePi or BannaPi . There may be a long lead time but they basically are Raspberry pi clones.

          gallium

That looks like a very good option while the Raspberry Pi are so expensive.
I just bought a refurbed chrome book that is in the list supported by gallium.
Going to give gallium a try when it arrives.
Do you know if I could just load debian on the chrome book?
I want to try a few different programs and they all require Debian or Ubuntu…

          Slow learner. But trying anyways.

@plainbroke I’m not aware of a different port that supports Chromebook/box

I have both Chromebook and Chromebox running gallium, w mm installed.

u have to open the case and remove the write protect screw and burn a different bios to install anything other than chromeos.

@plainbroke I don’t know if they ship overseas but you could try and find out from them. https://www.pishop.co.za/store/raspberry-pi-3

I prefer Khadas VIM series, Just one of the thinnest form factors(11.5mm), which has enough ports. There definitely exist so many smaller SBCs but they do have not enough connectivities and power as Khadas VIM series.
You can make your MagicMirror thinner. (as long as you need it…)

Will MM run on Libre Computer Board AML-S905X-CC (Le Potato) 2GB 64-bit Mini Computer they are only $55 on amazon. I think they will run Debian pretty easily.
I am going to try a few other projects with it that I have been wanting to do on a RPi, but they are pretty pricey right now. I thought this was worth a try. If it doesn’t work out, I will try a few of the projects on the support forum they have.

@plainbroke if they run debian, then you should have everything.

                      need a browser and nodejs.

looks like they are fairly stagnant tho, last os updates in 2019
