    Hi,
Complete noob here so please word your responses for 10 year olds :-)

Recently my MagicMirror has been booting to a black sceen. A literal black screen, and the only way to remove it is to minimize the window.
I think the problem started when i tried to update the program. I have tried since to update and think i have succeeded however now it seems not not boot at all. Even manually via SSH

My pi just boots to the standard UI.

    Any Ideas???

@nicoz if u updated, (git pull) did u npm install after?

also, sometimes existing modules need to have their stuff refreshed after the base refreshes
      (all leading to black screen)

I have a script for future updates that figures this all out…

in the short term, make sure you did

      cd ~/MagicMirror
      npm install

then check each module folder, and if there is an package.json file, also do the

      npm install

      for each such folder
      then restart mm

One other thing you can do is run “npm run config:check” in the magicmirror root directory (~/MagicMirror) - it’ll run through and see if there’s anything that’s slightly out of wack to blank the mirror but not out of wack enough to throw an error. It’s saved me lots of headaches several times.

npm install seemed to work in that i dont get a black screen anymore.

npm start will start the mirror but for some reason it wont stay open. i come back to the mirror and i am back at the Rasbian Home screen?

i also tried config:check but i dont really know what im looking at

I am having this same issue. I ran the update and everything was fine except my calendar and the 2 day weather thing, which looks like a known bug. I rebooted and am only getting a black screen with the mouse cursor. I did some digging and ran the npm install on the main magic mirror directory, and the directories for the modules i’m using, and it’s still not working. I tried to do the npm run config:check and it came back with an error saying " > magicmirror@2.11.0 config:check /home/pi/MagicMirror

@sdetweil I did git pull in the ~/MagicMirror parent directory. That gave me a few errors about changes, so i just did git pull --hard. Then I did npm install. For the other modules, i just did git pull and npm install.
