Possible to make a Magic Mirror with an old ARM chromebook?

I have an old chromebook (Samsung XE303), able to boot into Ubuntu or another distro through ChrUbuntu. It seems like a full kit, screen, audio, webcam, a tiny motherboard, and decent I/O. I’m debating keeping the battery and charging or finding another way to power though.
Would this be suitable for a project to make a small magic mirror? Has anyone else made a magic mirror using an ARM chromebook or similar?

@hofhux i have a 2014 toshiba chromebook running Gallium and MM runs perfectly… uses the camera for motion… (https://github.com/Motion-Project/motion)
obviously no GPIO pins so no function like that

@sdetweil sounds pretty cool! Just looking into GalliumOS, and motion detection is something I’m interested in implementing so cheers for the link
Do you have any pics or documentation of the build? And what did you end up doing with the power supply, kept the battery attached and charged where necessary?

@hofhux i didn’t mount it in a cabinet…
my chromebook is intel…
i did just crush the screen twice while in the hospital, but they were easy to change… and would be easy to mount I think…
i would leave as much of the normal guts as possible,…
