MM Alexa speech to text
-
@magmirusr nothing decent locally on the pi. most/almost all the good reco engines are cloud based , and only free for limited amounts of requests.
have u looked at MMM-AlexaControl? this uses a REAL echo device to invoke actions on the pi.
and u can make custom events…the module creates fake on/off plugs and hooks actions to the on or off event
supports MMM-Pages too… (turn on page 2, …)
the Alexa service (api) is all audio based. to and from. (except for some data cards, like weather info )…
the existing modules don’t invoke the latest api, so are very limited.
i have played with building an Alexa module on another platform, and the issue of skills for local system control is a real bear…

@sdetweil
I do have a real Echo device…
Yes I’m familiar with the MMM-AlexaControl module but it seems that you can’t send customized notifications to other modules.
So basically all I want is to say something like “Open Youtube and search for xy”. -
@magmirusr yeh, you can do the youtube thing, but not the what … as the ‘switch’ isn’t smart, only on or off…
on that other platform. almost all the things I would want to ask alexa are implemented locally
spotify, youtube,and the audio control for home automation works the same as real alexa.

@magmirusr
Idk alexa, but for google assistant embeded machine(e.g. home mini) you can do that already. So I think ideally possible with alexa. Just no one have had interest in it to imply. -
@mmrize ga uses text in both directions, Alexa is all audio
I have implentations of both., so I am aware of the differences.
-
@sdetweil can alexa play youtube or songs?
-
@arora1mayank no… Amazon reserves those functions for hardware manufacturers paying license fees
from the avs device console, entertainment tab,
underline is minenone of us opensource have a ‘your Amazon point of contact’
-
@sdetweil so i need to talk to amazon or google to pay license fees?
-
@arora1mayank I do not know how you do it… far as I know, we are not hardware makers (like a closed echo device, or Anker Viva https://goroav.com/pages/viva)
if u click the MSP link, there is a table of supported music services by geographic region.
-
@sdetweil but what if I start selling my magic mirror with free developer google SDKs. what can google or bugsounet do?
