IR touch frame
-
Hi guys. Finally our house is complete, we moved in, the dust settled and I can get back to hobbies.
The initial plans (no overlapping border, glass glued ontop of the frame) for my mirror needed to be scraped, but the mirror glass is already with me for several months. The new design needs to adopt the design of picture frames already hanging in the hallway, hence the frame will be black. Now that I have a visible border anyway I would like to add an IR touch frame like some of you already did. However my mirror is square, the display behind the mirror of course is smaller and the IR touch frames I found are screen sizes only.
Do you think there is an IR touch frame solution for this square design? I know the lower part won’t be touchable. Or is this impossible? -
Would a 4:3 frame work?
-
I should’ve mentioned the TFT is 32" … I knew I forgot something important.
I will try to contact one of these vendors to see if they can provide something for me. -
@yawns I’d never imagined how “Bigger-Touch-Frame-Than-Screen” works.
How can it map the touch-coordination into the real-screen-coordination? Very interesting. -
@Sean There should be a calibration tool with all sorts of touch-methods, where you define at least three points on the screen so the drivers can calculate where you actually touch and not only a default setting.
-
Interesting thoughts, Sean and broberg. Makes me realize I basically know nothing about how IR touch frames work, how input is provided to the operating system and how coordinates are mapped. Looks like I need to read some more on this aspect before moving forward…

I picked this up again and checked with “Peau Productions”. This is their positive feedback:
Hello Stefan,
Yes this diagram looks like an ideal smartmirror setup. Usually the monitor is only using the upper half of the mirror. We can certainly get you a custom frame to match but I will need to know your exact Length x Width dimms and your diagonal dimm. I will also need to know how many touch points you would like supported “2,6, 12, 32, 50+” touch points. Once I have this info I can get you a mechanical drawing and a quote. Any other questions, please let me know.
Best regardsHopefully I find some spare time during christmas break to find some measurements.

When I got my 32" IR Touch frame I asked about calibration and they told me none was needed… that was my experience…

that sounds interesting if it is not super expensive i might get this as well as my monitor will be also just a quarter of the mirror
