Project overview - 09.02.2018 - revisited
-
Hi guys,
So thatās my project the final version should be some 120x80cm big frameless, thin, magicmirror, with a lot of sound power, indirect/direct led lightning and so on.
Here are some pictures:

Added the Flick HAT. Easy installation and fast response volume changes. Distance trough wood or plexy will be tested soon.Added new media:

Looks nice! What does the hat you have on your pi do?
-
@mochman
Itās an amplifier for the Pi, itās a bit stronger than the hifiberry amplifier Hat. :)

I totally agree with the ācoffee is lifeā :D
Looks good. Keep us up on date please ;)

a bit offtopic:
Have you really compared the two AMPs?i am using a Hifiberry Amp2 (not at the mirror) and they are only talking about 60Watts (no RMS) to fire up my Klipsch Speakers.
The same as i could read has the Justboom Amp 2x30RMS (but only at 8ohm speakers), so why you choosed this (more expensive one) for this tiny looking speakers? ;)I also have a PiZeroW with a Justboom Amp (30W RMS). So small, and so powerfull, thats really nice.
ontopic: Please post some more pictures. Looks interesting.

@barnosch
I do. I didnāt tried them, but I did a comparison.Hifiberry Amp2 (65,64ā¬ Amazon):
https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/hifiberry-amp2/Justboom Amp HAT (69,6ā¬ Amazon):
https://www.justboom.co/product/justboom-amp-hat/Basically they are the same. Both using the same Texas Instruments Chip (TAS5756M) . So the specs are identically (2x30W) so I think electronics around the chip are probably also the same.
And cost almost the same š the Justboom has more features. Like Softmute, Hardware mute, IR control, etc. etc. etc. eeeetc.The JB HAT has spaces for the camera cable and display cable. None of the hifiberry have them. So big minus for the hifiberrys. And pins for the Rpidisplay (what ever).
The speakers arenāt so small (https://www.neuhold-elektronik.at/catshop/product_info.php?cPath=242_253&products_id=6537) but they are quite flat.
And flat speakers are what Iām looking for. They are designed for TVs so they are quite good for higher Hz (voice and music) but due the small cones, the donāt have much Bass (Deep Hz lower than 110Hz are missing) and so you will hear that (I play with the idea to add an crossover with a pair of exciters for the bass, said in an other thread here).
One speaker 10W RMS/20W peak @4Ohm. Iām using two per side, so ~20W RMS @8Ohm left and right. Itās not perfect but with the exciters I think it will be almost perfect for me.Next step, add the Flick HAT to control the volume :
https://www.pi-supply.com/make/justboom-volume-control-with-flick/
I donāt know if the flick works with the hifiberry amp2 also (I do not really care cause I have the JB)
Pictures, yeah sure! I will post more till the end of the project :) next steps will be the flick and the frame, ā¦ the LEDs (indirect RGBs around the mirror) direct above (1m CW/WW Led strip like this: https://www.lampenwelt.at/100-cm-breite-led-spiegellampe-esther.html? ) and so onā¦ and on and on ^^

Thanks for you reply.
Take a look at this
https://shop.max2play.com/de/audio-boards/by-type/amp.html
in this case the hifiberry is way cheaper. i guess the postage to Austria would kill it again ;)The more features should make the difference. Good point.
I am using a pi3 with the Amp2 and the original 7" Rasp Display. Thats working without issues. If you use third party or HDMI it might be tight.The Flick is a interesting little thing :)
Pretty sure it will work on the Hifiberry too, since you only need to plug it on the GPIO pins.How do you want to use the Amp on your mirror?
How do you want to stream the sound to the pi? -
@barnosch
Max2play is the shop that sells it on Amazon too. Postage is 13,99ā¬ to Austria via DHL Express. There arenāt many shops selling amps for the pi.Yeah the flick will be great, I want an easy contactless way to change volume when Iām in the bathroom (for the first). So any button or rotary switch with wet hands could be problematic, so I searched for an contactless way. Iāll try the flick and will inform you about the performance.
Streaming:
I use spotify (https://github.com/dtcooper/raspotify). Raspotify is great cause it is easy to use and runs stable. The advantage of raspotify is everyone can stream on it (not only one account). Like Amazon Alexa when you say: āAlexa spotify connectā, everybody can connect to the echo. -
Alright. nice.
I am using two āmax2playā Speaker combinations, to have a Multiroom System. Music is streamed from a Fritzbox attached harddisk.
The mirror hasānt got to do something with it, yet.
Still searching for a MM module that implements the current playing song on each player.
Like the Sonos module.I am pretty sure, i will find soon something where i can use the Flick thing aswell ;)
So i am looking forward to hear, how good it is actually working. -
The Flick HAT arrived today, freshly from the UK š
Two pics added:
