@Cato Well yes it would be cheaper to buy the glass from the UK cuz Norwegian suppliers need to pay freight and tax before adding what they want to make on it. This type of glass is not something thay have in stock so they to will have to order, remeber we are making a magic mirror so the glass should be made for this. Smart glass is made to cover tv or a computer screen so the colors dont get distorted.

Yes touch will work behind glass, there is normaly two ways you do thtis. IR frame wich is cheap and great if you have a frame on the mirror. I always use pcap screens since i can make the mirror bordeless with that. pcap is (Projected Capacitive touch screen) its more expensive but looks great.

I was planning on buying picture frame with the glass and then try the foil on it. Any tips where the foil could be purchased?
I saw that biltema hadde slik folie, but not sure if it is available anymore. Any tips on where to find the foil?

@dakipro Well foile can be used but you have to get a hi D number or else you will not see the screen. You will need to buy from a solar window tint provider for homes. This is the clearest http://www.vindusfolie-nettbutikk.no/shop/product/silver-35-ext-solfilm?tm=solfilm-til-hus

                Hope this helps

@Phantom have you tested this? I’m wondering about the reflective properties. Will the reflection be too dark (ie no wife acceptance)…

@Phantom The problem, I discovered when I built my mirror, is that it might look OK up until you compare it to a normal mirror. Then you see the reflection is darker.

@Cato Yes that why i use the costum glas. But i think the film will give very good reflection, you have just two way mirror film to but not in norway.

@Phantom takk, I will check it out. I do not see D number in their specs, only B G and U. I read once on those numbers, but I cannot seem to find it now on the forum.

I decided to try to find actual glass mirror first. Have sent email to 4-5 companies that sell windows and mirrors, still waiting for someone to answer.
I hope that something like this could be used http://www.vgi.no/default.asp?pageid=10651

I got few offers from glass and mirror suppliers in Norway from 1900kr to 5000kr for piece of two way mirror (argusspeil/spionspeil) size 60x80cm.
Most offers were around 2000kr (220e) and I am now evaluating is it worth it.
Foil with a simple piece of glass is half the price, but I am really afraid that I will get bubbles with the foil and that foil will be damaged after some time.

I have also found mirrored plexiglass for around 40e, but I am afraid of reflection being skewed and look ugly, and that would irritate me a lot. Maybe to use regular glass behind the plexiglass (just to keep plexiglass straight if possible)

Not sure yet… total price for mirror will be over 350e… still convincing myself (and the spouse :) )

Building the thing is not that difficult. Get the approval is… ;-)

My wife wasn’t that convinced when I built it, But after after a day with no internet connection at home, and hence no updated trip info on my Ruter module, she had to admit it was nice with a magig mirror in the hallway.

Well as I mentioned above, I called few companies in Bergen (Glassbjerget, Cg-glass, Glass-larvik, and few others, hopefully this is allowed as it is not advertising) and they all asked for around 2000kr for 60x80 two way mirror (argusspeil/toveisspeil). Thing is that no one has it on stock so that one can see and test it, nor do they have any specification about transparency, only thing they know is that it is used in police and hospitals as a two way mirror. And I think they would rather not use time for such a “small” amount so I decided to postpone project a bit due to some personal affairs, but also to try to find some more details or if possible to see some sample before buying. Buying it without seeing it would make it useless, i cannot sell it i cannot use it.

Okey! I’m looking for 62x38 and the company’s I been in contact with wants from 1350 to 4200 kr. The glass with the low price is to thick with 6mm or they don’t got any information about it. The best one I found was for 2700 kr and they had an piece I could try, but 2700 is a lot so I’m looking around if I can find a cheaper one.
