PS: for a long time I’ve been an advocate of security on IoT devices, shortly after the realease of Shodan serach engine; I cannot stress enough how important it is to keep your devices safe from prying eyes or ears, or keep them from being part of a botnet.

Just a quick and final update.

Considering the recent revelations made by Wikileaks #Vault7, I have decided to stay away from Alexa; at least for now.

Already found two possible alternatives, I will not compromise my or anyone else’s privacy.

I like the response time of alexa, and would love to get this integrated, but like i said with less talking and more text.

@joanaz @savage_gr1nd I had my certs both as MagicMirror and other names, made sure everything in the code is correct every time I changed anything.

It just wont take it.

I will go around this another way, I’m starting to lose interest in the whole tts concept and will go with something simpler using text :)

@savage_gr1nd i think its pretty clear that we’re not zipping the src folder but the contents. I did it form terminal as well as selecting everything inside of it and using right click, compress…

tried names like import.zip export.zip package.json.zip index.zip indexjs.zip nothing worked…

@jdiggity I have the same problem. Started over again at least 5 times, even on a fresh install of Raspbian.

The index.js and mirrormirror.js are not missing any commas or brackets, would have to wait for @joanaz to get back to us …

@Journeytojah I think the region is why some people couldn’t get it to work. Right now, Lambda only works with US East regions. So better use US East for every AWS services needed here.

I had US East selected, but maybe because I am not physically located in the US it somehow gets blocked by some ISP somewhere along the way.

To me thats what it looked like, a connectivity issue.

And I know Alexa Skills with Lambda are only supported in some regions, but that includes one European one, the one in Ireland, so ill try that one.

Anyway, after seeing how impossible it is to work with Jaster/So.nus and so on, I will go back and give this another try…

I still didn’t get mine to work, I haven’t tried again to be honest…

I am in Spain, if that makes a difference.

I was trying out other options for voice control like Jasper, etc; no luck so far.

@joanaz Thats what I did… I will try again.

By the way, I was unable to upload the .zip from the RPi, it would just say “must not exist”, so i did it from my laptop, could this be the issue?

I ran the .sh script and downloaded dependencies on the raspberry, archived the src folder contents and used my laptop to upload them.

@joanaz Now i get this error for the Lambda function… tried 3/10/15 seconds.

@lucallmon afaik you get 12 months for free, you just need to use a credit card to register, and they “use” 1$ to confirm its your account, kinda like PayPal does.

@joanaz I’m cloning my SD card because i ran out of free space installing AlexaPi last night.

Do you have any idea why i got that error? The function runs in lambda when testing but in the logs i see that application ID is missing.

I made sure to put my app ID in the js script and update the lambda function.

It would get an error on 3s timeout so i set it to 15.

Ill try setting it up from scratch again and let you know how it goes. Thanks!
