RE: 230V in the naked monitor
Do you have got a picture ?
Normaly the metall which you can touch (even after removing the plastic shell) should have no contact with high voltage, as far as i know. The powersupply is normaly in an isolated shell because otherwise your screen will be rosted ;-) The other thing is the heat which leaves the monitor espacially with an internal power supply - anything higher than 45-50°C i would not accept especially when you think about the other parts of your mirror.

RE: Can I use any LVDS board with any LCD screen?
When you order them from Banggood or Alibaba or where ever, they normaly ask you for the lcd-panel you are using. That has a reason; the connector to the panel (like the lvds in that picture) and sometimes you need a ccfl inverter or a matching cable for your LED backlight. The other reason, which I cant completly confirm is, some panels seem to have different ways in “communicating”, the LCD Driver seem to be programmed by the guys you order it. They might function with different cables on other panels of the same type, but they dont have to. The resolution of the display seems to be just one thing its all about. Yesterday i came across a more “universal” Driver which accepted a few panels in a few resolutions - this seems to be the most available swiss-knife what you can get but there where only 50 types in that list - which is a joke considering the amount of differnt panels available.
In short, be aware if they offer you a universal one, you will probably just spend money and it wont work, because of cables or its not flashed for your panel type. Be aware if they dont ask you for your panel type.

RE: Can I use any LVDS board with any LCD screen?
I know its an old one, but maybe you are still interessted…
The 2-pin connector is power related maybe for the backlight which seems to be true cause of the “flash logo” this might be the inverter which inductes a high amount of energy. The picture doesnt help that much to be honest. There must be a few barcodes on it they might be helpful. On the screen must be a few more connections pictures might help as well.

RE: Monitor with case or without case
I was thinking about that topic too. I came to the conclusion its better without case.
If you leave it in its case, think about the screen orientation, the monitor is desgined to work like it is. Which is normaly not any problem but think about heat - the case of the screen is designed to let the heat pass by -in its designed way- if you flip the screen e.g. by 90 degress it might not work for long because the heat cant leave the case as intended. -Thats just a guess, cause screens normaly can cope with a bit more heat than normal. For me the most interssting point was the thinkness i could safe without the case, after removing the case i found another nice great thing, i could move the Display controller to a total different place, i will place it next to the screen but need a few new cables for that (ordered them already) in the end i will safe another big chunk in thickness.
Overall you gain a lot of flexibility by removing it from its case.

RE: Where to get (cheap) acrylic mirror from in Germany
Hi,
following your conversations since a few weeks, guess what ?! I have the same trouble in finding a two way mirror.
Thanks for all the helpfull comments, tough i still strougle to find a feseller that i can afford ;-) Today i was at a glazier, his answer was roughly 220€ for that kind of mirror in 60x60cm. Still trying to find alternatives online…I came across this webpage and there was an interessting side note: “Smart-Mirror können mit Spionspiegeln nur bedingt erstellt werden, dazu sind schwach reflektierende Spiegel besser geeignet. Diese können von uns bestellt werden, unterliegen aber einem Mindestbestellwert.” (Quote: http://www.glaserei-kater.de/spionspiegel.html) Which translates roughly into: Spymirrors/two way mirrors arent the most suitable for a smartmirror, the best should be a low/weak reflecting mirror.
Any ideas about that ? First time I hear from that kind of mirrors and no real products to find on the internet under the phrase “schwach reflektierender Spiegel”.
@dbahn25 The UK Side you mentioned doesnt ship to Germany do they ?
