    • RE: Microphone advise for PI2 & voice control

@maxbachmann AlexaPi has no control over Magic Mirror… as far as i know… it is just an Amazon Alexa on a Rpi instead of an Echo (why should i buy an Echo for the bathroom when i have the mirror).
The only integration/connection to MM is that it displays the status of Listening, Answering etc. While the reason i want MMM-voice, is to “control” the Magic Mirror… hide modules, show modules etc etc.

There is no consideration or worries as far as privacy, cloud or whatever … we all know how to live with NSA present at home one way or another…some time even with the much larger PLA … LMAO :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I have no idea what these other, separate programs for catching hotwords are … any pointers

@Sean Same here all… pictures are rotated very few are the right way … the majority of photos are taken with a Samsung Galaxy S8+ and some with older camera

    • RE: Microphone/MMM-voice Help

@strawberry-3-141 Ok so i have a very similar situation i have AlexaPi (and MMM-AlexaPi for visual feedback) and want to use MMM-voice and Hello-Lucy. I have 2 USB microphones (a webcam that i talk to AlexaPI and a USB sound card that i want to use for MMM-voice)
On the config.js i have assigned microphone id of 2 for MMM-voice ( arecord -l and the install of MMM-voice show that alsa as 0 USB webcam as card 1 and USB sound card as card 2)
when i start magic mirror MMM-voice says “initializing” than briefly “Waiting for module commands” than settles on “error”
      My questions are:

      1. and i am pretty sure i have an answer for this is that AlexaPi and MMM-voice can they use the same mic or not … most likely not .
      2. why isn’t using microphone #2 straight forward do i have to twitch anything on alsa config, etc will pulse audio be better and what is the difference ?? how do we mitigate this problem??

I have tested and confirmed that both usb microphones work when they are plugged each by themselves but not when they are both simultaneously plugged in only the webcam would record … i am not sure if i am putting the right parameter here “arecord hw:1,0 -d 10 /tmp/test-mic.wav”

Please any help will be greatly appreciated

    • RE: Microphone advise for PI2 & voice control

@maxbachmann @Sean It is my understanding that not 2 separate programs (AlexaPi and MMM-voice) use the same resources which is the one and only usb microphone i have right now.
Am i right on this??.. cause boy do i wish to be wrong!!
Has anyone used 2 progs one mic…and i haven’t even tired it but someone said you couldn’t and i think they are right myself… but i will give it a try and hope it works.

    • How can i have 2 microphones working simultaneously on a raspberry pi

I have a question can i use 2 microphones on a raspberry pi ?? Either usb or something like the respeaker where both mics are monitored by different modules one for MM-voice and the other for Alexa Pi … (MM-voice will let you choose a mic ID, where it listens to its wake words)
I Just don’t know how to have raspberry pi’s configuration twitched, which i am sure it needs to be, to have 2 mics working???

    • RE: MMM-Assistant (updated) -- Your voice to the world!

@dmwilsonkc @Mykle1 Thank you gentleman for replying… that was my first question the microphone will be occupied by the Alexa service.
Ok so if i were to add a second microphone since i see that on MMM-voice they have figured in a microphone Id variable… How difficult will it be to have 2 microphones into one Raspberry pi?? Has any one tried that?? Meaning a little usb microphone and the webcam mic i already have there should be 2 USB IDs one for each… or do i need to tweak some settings on the audio input of the Pi that no one knows about??

      Thank you again

      @e3v3a
Well not like anyone answered on my first post on this thread right above but my next question is…Do i absolutely have to install the Google Assistant part meaning to configure the API etc for the GA??? … all i need is the mirror voice control to hide and show the modules ?? Will the mirror-control part work without configuring the GA side??
      Please let me know

i second your opinion… any traction on this at all integrating with smarthings.
I am using action tiles in my MM with some simple switch controls …i have connected a joystick mouse to click them on an iframe instance

    • RE: MMM-Assistant (updated) -- Your voice to the world!

      Hello all,
I have a mirror that is working fantastically, with swipe, and pages modules with sonic sensors, PIR sensor, facial recognition, dht22, relays ad a bunch of modules for me and my wife all working together on the same raspberry pi 3 i also have Alexa Pi a full blown Alexa assistant that only shows on the mirror that is listening and working all of them are working just fine the Alexa pi is using a usb audio device and a mic and for camera i use a raspberry pi camera.

Anyhow my question is if i install MMM-Assistant to voice control the mirror’s modules etc, will it interfere with the Alexa assistant i already got working??? Does it have anything to do with access to the usb audio device which one of the modules will have access to it first?? Or will they both be able to cooperate each respectively answering to their own call signs??

      Thank you
It sounds like a great module
