After stumbling upon a YouTube video of a “smart mirror” I knew I had to make one of these. I used an old Acer 23" LCD monitor with a 1’ x 2’ glass panel from Amazon. I modeled the frame in Tinkercad ensuring there was a lip for the glass to rest on and that it could be built from an 8’ stud of 2" wood for the face of the frame and 3" wood for the walls of the housing. I cut the wood with a cheap handsaw angle kit that allowed me to assemble the pieces together in miter joints. The wood was sanded then spraypainted multiple coats of matte black paint. I mounted the monitor to the frame with Gorilla tape which in turn secured the glass. Even with this mirror in front of me it’s still just as magical as when I saw it on video. I’m sure in the future I’ll continue to tinker with the software and design custom modules but this is how I’ll keep it for now:
