    • RE: IR frame or Touch-foil

I had the same concerns regarding money-wasted, but once again curiosity beat reason ;-)

I am using a RasPi 3 and the bar works OOTB. The airbar will come calibrated for a 15.6" (laptop) screen. That is exactly the size of the available touch area. You might be able to see the dust marks on my screen. The bar will reach approx. up to the top of the news headline (“Des Politikers…”). There is a slight horizontal line I drew with my finger. The lateral limits are depicted by the 2 vertical lines on the airbar.
Regarding the mapping ratio, I hope the following is somewhat comprehensible:
With the standard configuration you will be able to use the whole touch area, but the mousepointer will be mapped to the full screen height. In my case that is 1920 pixels as I am using portrait mode.
So if I move the finger from the bottom to the upper touch area limit, the mouse pointer will actually move from the bottom of the screen all the way to the top. That way it is kinda impossible to accurately touch a virtual button on the screen. After some tweaking I found a setting that would map any input kinda 1:1 on the screen a.k.a. touch area.

      Any other drawbacks?
Yep. Of course you will see fingerprints on the mirror from touching the surface. But since the bar is held in place by magnets it is quite easy to remove the bar and wipe the mirror with a cloth. Besides you will have to find a way to route the cable from the bar to the Pi. The cable is only about 20cm long…

    • RE: IR frame or Touch-foil

      Hi all!
I came across a nice little gadget called “AirBar” -> www.air.bar
Though I am NOT using MM2.0 as GUI it might be worth a try for you guys.
The bar will not give you a full-screen touch capability (at least with bigger screens, like my 32") but it works quite fine in my case. That said: I am only using the lower 1/3 for touch input.
I mounted the 15.6" version of the airbar on the bottom of the screen on top of the mirror with 2 quite strong neodym magnets holding it in place. Attached pic shows the mounting situation without the mirror.

After some tweaking with the configuration file (cueword: “Coordinate Transformation Matrix”) I get a pretty even mapping and touch gestures are accurate +/- 3-5mm. Fair enough for my (placeholder) buttons on the screen ;-)

    • RE: [ORDER CLOSED] Two way mirror order in Germany

      @Advokaten
Thank you very much for the kind offer. But having had a good sleep or two over the issue I managed to find peace with myself again ;-) All in all it’s just a broken mirror…
I did order a second mirror along with the first and decided to simply change my plans for its use. I went to my local glass shop and asked them to cut it in half. That way I will end up with 2 mirrors. Ok, they are different in size now, but hey? I will end up with 2 mirrors still :)

Again, I really do appreciate your offer as it proves a hell of a lot in regards of community spirit. Especially since it is not the fault of any of you. I do hope though that you do not bother that I have to turn down your offer. Everything is fine.

    • RE: [ORDER CLOSED] Two way mirror order in Germany

      Thx for your reply Chriz,

of course I cannot outrule anything. I took the mirrors from the driver and brought them directly to my living-room. To my dearest knowledge no-one else but me has touched the mirror since. That is why I came to the assumption it might have been transport damage.
The glass chip (~7mm in diameter) looks like a “Abplatzung” as if the mirror was put to the floor on the edge-side and some sort of tiny pebble was sitting there. I do have no real explanation for the cracks though.

      The broken one was 740 x 540 mm’s. The other is 1000 x 800 mm’s.

    • RE: [ORDER CLOSED] Two way mirror order in Germany

My mirrors finally arrived last night. Looking really good!

Well, at least it looked good. One is already broken. Last night when the art-forwarder arrived (it was 9 o’clock at night) everything seemed fine. Even when I took-off the bubble-wrap after the driver left everything looked fine. I just peeled of the foil a bit on one corner to get a first impression of the “mirror effect”. A bit too transparent was my first impression. OK, it was not really blackened on the display side yet. But anyway it is not installed yet as well.
This morning I tried to remove the protection foil a bit further and noticed a tiny chip on the edge where the mirror coating came off. The glass chip was sticking to the foil. So I thought maybe glueing the chip back on with super glue would do the trick because the edges will be covered anyway on the final install. After doing so I noticed that there was a crack (“first crack”) just a couple of mm’s into the glass a tad further down the edge. When I lifted the mirror to hold it against the light to see the crack’s extent the mirror broke in half. The breaking edge was even more further down the edge. So there must have been a second crack which caused the breaking.

I cannot prove that it actually was a transport damage, but most likely it was. Too bad that I signed the delivery papers “OK” and did not notice the cracks BEFORE I started glueing the chip back on. I guess this will leave me with nothing but a broken mirror as it will be hard to get reliable proof for the freight insurance to call in :-(
The second mirror ist perfectly fine though.

#warum schreiben wir jetz eigentlich in Deutsch? Aba, egal#
Ned falsch verstehen.

Nomml sorry, wenn’s vorhin blöd angekommen is.

      @Goldjunge_Chriz
Have the mirrors been picked up yet by the art forwarder? The guy called me last week just to tell me to call me again last Sunday to determine the actual delivery. So far I haven’t gotten a call back.

    • RE: List Good Monitors To Build With

I can’t tell if my approach would work on the MM-image, but on a RasPi with latest Jessie-image it seems pretty easy:
      sudo apt-get install cec-utils

sudo usermod -a -G video [put user triggering the following commands here]

      To turn monitor on:
      echo on 0 | cec-client -s -d 1
      To turn it off:
      echo standby 0 | cec-client -s -d 1

Of course it depends on the time your specific monitor will need to come out of deep stand-by. Mine takes 12 secs to respond :-(
But I’ve seen monitors only needing 2 secs…
