why don’t u have a new door rebuilt? the extra space you get would be totally customed to your specs, and it would be much cheaper than obtaining a large screen that’s 1.5cm or less.

@Kastore Why not just let the mirror extend past the back of the door? Are there shelves? Just let your mirror wear a backpack.

Problem with config or JavaScript? Copy/paste it into JSHint.
Check out the detailed walkthroughs on install, config, modules, etc.

Not sure if that fixes the problem since i then have a “bigger” door and thus not more space.

        @ninjabreadman
I wanted to keep it “clean” and not have a huge bulky frame behind the door.

And yes there a shelves behind the door. So i may have a little bit more space to work with but as mentioned i aim for getting the whole thing “inside” the door

I just started working somewhere new and they had monitors that are super thing: LG 24MB56HQ-B. I am trying to find something along that line.
Problem with that specific monitor is that they got the plug facing “backwards” and not down :/

Well, the Raspberry Pi alone is already a fatty with its LAN and USB ports. How will you deal with that? What about the power supply and the heat release? The space you have is tiny. If you every manage to make it fit neatly you should definitely post pictures :-)

Tha panels themselfs usually isn’t as thick as the total monitor, the electronics are the thick parts, some soldering and new cables and you should be able to move it all to the side inside the cabinet

                Little update on the monitor:
I decided to go with a BENQ GL2450 which I found cheap on ebay.

And since I was a bit to eager I forgot the “before” picture but amazon does have them :P

Well here is the whole monitor dismanteled

The pannel itself is the desired 1cm

                The conductors dont -.-

So there goes my “dream” of having nothing showing out of the back… I think I will have to work around it somehow ._.

You could buy a universal LCD controller board like the V56. Buy the longest LVDS cable you can find. The board itself, w/o LED driver cost around 7.50€-8.00€ incl. shipping. The cheapest LVDS cable I found was 0.88€ incl. shipping. Usually they are around 20cm but you could also make a longer one yourself. A universal LED driver should be less than a euro, too.
You could then lead the cables to the inside of the cabinet (via the hinges probably). and hide the electronic boards in a hidden double floor board (if you know what I mean). Like a box inside, or on top of the mirror. Just make sure you allow air flow for cooling.

@MadScientist said in Slim display due to thin space:

                    universal LCD controller board

The problem with having it “not mounted” to the door itself will be the cables. I will keep on using the door so id have to make sure they dont break or get stuck or anything.
The power cords are strong enough so i dont have to worry - but the LVDS cable i dont trust toooo much ^^

I guess i will be building a “box” on the top side of the door and have the whole equipment in there. That way it is “out of sight”, near a hinge and got a low leverage.

But I may order one of the universal boards and mount that to the door as well. Just to reduce the size. Very nice tip from you! Didnt know they are SO MUCH THINER! Wish they had used that right away in the BenQ monitor ._.

And the air will flow via some airholes on the bottom and top - like a chimney (hope that is enough ^^)
