MMM-voice ugly hdmi banner

@mdhenriksen it switches on via my Apple TV, but not from the Pi, the sceen knows it’s there I have it linked as a settop box so it should be using the hdmi as it does with the Apple TV, for now just need the ugly no signal turning off
-
@mdhenriksen so I think I’m boned on this point it can put it to sleep ie just turning off the Pi hdmi rather than the signal to monitor not sure if that’s because I’m using the fork by @cowboysdude? Which I don’t think is the case, I’ll have to look into this some more but now I can actually revive it from no input detected, but the sleep and wake is what I’m after. The TV has a DVI hdmi connection and that is what I have used to rescue it from the HDMI no signal that I couldn’t revive it from.
-
@dazza120 the tv is an energystar device. which will show the ugly no input screen until the energyStar timeout (15 minutes) and then power off…
that is what the HIDE setting on my MMM-SleepWake module does. it blanks the screen, instead of turn off the signal.
-
@sdetweil cheers but I had to leave MMM-SleepWake as I didn’t have a clue how to install the motion project, the more I looked at it the more my tiny brain 🧠 started to smoke 🤯
-
@dazza120 https://motion-project.github.io/motion_build.html
To install via apt, open up a terminal window and type: sudo apt-get install motion -
@sdetweil said in MMM-voice ugly hdmi banner:
sudo apt-get install motion
Your joking! So is that the packaged installed with that command? As what I was looking at was totally different to this. Thanks for your help.
-
@dazza120 from github project page
Motion, a software motion detector. Home page: https://motion-project.github.io/click documentation and then
https://motion-project.github.io/motion_guide.html -
@sdetweil i have followed it as best as i could i have the package installed and have located the motion folder in my user directory but for the life of me i cant find this motion.conf file to insert your script.
-
motion config is done in /etc/motion/motion.conf
i just added a line in the readme about that -
@sdetweil thank you, i have located it with your help, ill work on this when im not at work thanks, so its just a case of adding one of your scripts? think ill just use the start one
-
@dazza120 its just one script… external_motion… you pass it a parm, started or ended
you need to configue both started and ended, else it can’t sleep thinking motion is still going onnote that because it is in the /etc folder tree, you must use sudo in front of your editor to get write permission
-
@sdetweil motion.conf won’t let me edit it, or rather the pi won’t any way around this?
-
sudo nano /etc/motion/motion.conf
nano or whatever editor you choose…
-
also just noticed that the execute bit is not set on the script… SO
cd modules/MMM-SleepWake
chmod +x external_motion -
@sdetweil so is it just this part i need to put on_event_start /home/pi/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake/external_motion started
-
@dazza120 correct… and right below it the same with ended as the parm for the motion ended notice
-
@sdetweil im leaving it with the ; in the command line?
-
@dazza120 the example doesn’t have ;
on_event_start /home/{userid}/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake/external_motion started
-
@sdetweil no it this is what its like i hope this is correct?
# Command to be executed when an event starts. (default: none) # An event starts at first motion detected after a period of no motion defined $ ; on_event_start /home/pi/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake/external_motion sta$ # Command to be executed when an event ends after a period of no motion # (default: none). The period of no motion is defined by option event_gap. ; on_event_end value /home/pi/MagicMirror/modules/MMM-SleepWake/external_motion$ -
ok, that ; is a comment in the motion conf file, just like #… have to remove it
note that the on event end has an extra token there that neds to be removed
on_event_end value
