      I’m having some really odd problems with the raspbian install. Starting to wonder about the hardware. It’s a RPi 2B that’s been rock solid for years, but for whatever reason it won’t boot from any newly flashed SD card - though it boots fine from the original.

      I have another one in a box somewhere. I’ll pull it out and give it a try – I’d hate to think I’ve wasted your time over flakey hardware – but the fact that the other one is working as expected with the previous MM version makes me think (hope!) that’s not the case.

      I’ll definitely keep you posted!

        I pulled out another Pi, flashed the OS and installed MM using the script you referenced earlier. It’s working perfectly. I’m still completely baffled. I’ve triple checked on the original SD image - it works as expected on the previous version of MM, but not on the current one… Ah well –

        Thank you for taking so much time to look into this, and I am sorry for having wasted so much of your time.

          @blissb not wasted time, interesting problem.
          glad we’ve found something that resolves it.

          thank for your feedback

            @sdetweil I’m chiming in a bit late here. Has there been any more widespread report of calendar times being off? Mine worked flawless for years then the past few months times are off, presumably UTC as mentioned in this thread.

            I’m having a hard time seeing what the actual solution was?

            Thanks so much in advance!

              @jasonumd so far, every time events have been off, the system timezone has not been set correctly…

              note that a docker container is its own system and needs ITS timezone set too…

              what changed since it worked to now?

                @sdetweil I changed absolutely nothing. Just applied regular MM updates. I will investigate those two settings ASAP.

                  @jasonumd Same - I have been running this for years… and just did “git pull” and “npm update” in two separate module directories and now I’m UTC. “date” from the console shows the correct date/time.

                  Raspberry pi…

                    @n1sni edit the docker container parms to add

                    environment:
                           TZ:your_timezone

                    else it defaults to UTC

                      @sdetweil said in MagicMirror using the wrong time:

                      TZ=your_timezone

                      Wow, that was easy :)

                        @sdetweil I just confirmed my system timezone is accurate. I’m not running MM via docker. I set this up probably 4 years ago. Perhaps I should do a fresh install.

                          @jasonumd just for the sake of fun testing

                          in the script you use to start MM add

                          export TZ=????

                          where ??? is your timezone code
                          add this line before the

                          npm start

                          line

                          if you are using my install script with PM2, then the script located at

                          ~/MagicMirror/installers/mm.sh

                            @sdetweil I’m not a linux guru. Added and rebooted. but I’m operating via Putty. Am I supposed to reboot while watching the screen and check for something?

                                @jasonumd didn’t need to reboot… if using pm2, then

                                pm2 status
                                pm2 restart xx

                                where x is the number of the line of the MagicMirror app
                                or the name shown on that same line (I set it up as MagicMirror, others get mm as they started mm.sh)
