I like to make periodic backups of my mirror’s Micro SD card, but it’s a real pain in the butt to have to take the whole mirror down from the wall each time to do so.

      I came across this doohickey:
      https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/accessories-198/output-adaptors/adaptors-and-extension-cables/micro-sd-to-micro-sd-extension-cable

I’m thinking of using this to route the Micro SD slot out the side of the frame. Has anyone used one of these? Are there any gotchas i should be aware of?

@Sean I did a bit of digging on that and there are two ways to boot from USB: One which requires an SD card with the boot partition on it before handing off to the USB storage – which still leaves me with the same issue – or a second way which involves a permanent change to the One Time Programmable memory, which would mean I could never boot from the SD card again even if I wanted to.

Maybe I’ll just buy the extension and give it a shot. It’s an inexpensive experiment.

So I went ahead and ordered one off of Amazon, and I’m happy to report it works just like I had hoped. Now I don’t have to pull the mirror off the wall anymore any time I want to make a backup of my SD card!
