      @sdetweil said in Getting MMM to open on the second monitor and correctly size:

      n config.js u need to tell it where (left/right) to position the monitor in the display space.
      add this to config.js
      var config = {
      electronOptions:{x:1920 }, // add this line, where x is the width of your 1st display

      now orientation… you MAY be able to use also width and height… altho it says to fullscreen on that montitor, so it should work
      electronOptions:{x:1920, width:xx, height: yy },

      Great thank you for the advice I will try it later.

    • Getting MMM to open on the second monitor and correctly size

      I have a second monitor to the right of my default monitor

      The idea is to open MMM on that screen and have it scaled correctly which is about 220 x 330 mm, this monitor is mounted vertically.

      Your help is appreciated.

    • RE: Importing the Google calendar authentication and password.

      I have managed to get this sorted by importing the .ics file from Gmail that is public and does not require authentication.

      Next I have a problem with the .ics file since it only shows South African public holidays.

      Other holidays such as Russian holidays, Christian and Orthodox holidays show on the Google Calendar but are not imported in the .ics file.

    • Importing the Google calendar authentication and password.

      The default module looks like this.

      url: ‘http://www.calendarlabs.com/templates/ical/US-Holidays.ics’,
      symbol: ‘calendar’,
      auth: {
      user: ‘username’,
      pass: ‘superstrongpassword’,
      method: ‘basic’

      However mine does not have the following.

      auth: {
      user: ‘username’,
      pass: ‘superstrongpassword’,
      method: ‘basic’

      I tried to ad these manually but that just corrupts the code.

      I am doing this in Windows 10 using Note++ to edit.

      your help is appreciated

      Finally found it

      It resides in package.json

      DISPLAY="${DISPLAY:=:0}

      Deleted the above

      " ./node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js"

      and it works

    • Black Screen on start up on Windows

      I get this screen again on both PC’s I have tried to install on.

      Once before I had this problem the fix was to delete

      Problem is now I can’t seem to find the correct place where this instruction is

      Below is the message I get.

      @Mykle1 said in How to add modules. For absolute beginners.:

      There isn’t one because the only difference is the path to your config folder. So, navigate to your config folder (inside the MagicMirror folder) and open it. If you don’t find a config.js file there then you need to copy and paste the config.js.sample file and rename the copy to config.js. Once you have made or found a config.js file then you can just follow the tutorial from there.

      Thank you very much, I will follow the instructions and see how I go.

      They’re pretty much one and the same. You already have git installed. Open a terminal in the modules folder, clone the module repository into it, follow the module’s instructions on installing & configuring.

      Thank for the advice.

    • RE: How to add modules. For absolute beginners.

      Where do I find the Windows version of what needs to be done here?

      https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/4231/how-to-add-modules-for-absolute-beginners/2

      @Mykle1 said in How to add modules. For absolute beginners.:

      Go to your Pi desktop

      Click the File Manager folder. (Top menu bar, 3rd from the left, in Raspbian Jessie)

      Double click the MagicMirror folder.

      Double click the config folder.

      Double click the config.js file. (Not the sample! The config.js file you made during setup)

      Your config.js file is now open in a text editor. If not, open it in your text editor.

      You have to add an entry for the module you just downloaded so that MM knows to load it.

      Lets put the entry for MMM-JEOPARDY under your calendar module entry.

      Modules that occupy the same postition display in the order they appear in the config.js file.

      Scroll down to the calendar entry in the config.js file.

      The calendar entry “ends” at the last }, and the compliments module entry begins with a {.
      So, all module entries in the config.js file begin with a { and end with a },
      Look at the way the modules are entered. What I just described should be evident.

      Copy and paste the following “between” the ending of the calendar module entry - },

      And the beginning of the compliments module entry - {

      Got this now I read somewhere that this is what needs to change for the display to work.

      `DISPLAY=“${DISPLAY:=:0}” ./node_modules/.bin/electron js/electron.js

      needs to be removed, I just can’t remember where to access this setting.

      thanks I have used this since I am trying to do this on a Windows PC.

      https://forum.magicmirror.builders/topic/4089/complete-walkthrough-install-magicmirror-on-a-pc-windows-7-10

      It is installed on my Dell Server.

      I have not done git clone yet

      It asks that I clone a repository

      Not sure which depository it wants me to clone and how do I point it to that repository.
