    • Tokyo metropolitan transport module

      Hi everyone,
I’m not sure if anyone has attempted this, but I couldn’t find anything. Tokyo seems to be missing from the list of places that have a metro transport module. Quite striking, considering it’s the largest metro area in the world.

Is there a reason for that? Copyright or reverse-engineered API issues? I just quickly checked, at least for Tokyo Metro there is a convenient JSON API that one could access. This would at least cover train status (normal / delays / disruptions). This would probably be enough since intervals between trains are crazy short already, so there’s little need for a module that specifically shows the next train (in my opinion, that is).

If there’s no specific reason for Tokyo missing such a module, I might give creating one a shot (recently moved there for an exchange, and now am bored waiting out Corona). So if you’d like to see such a module, please like / comment! Also if you’d be willing to work together ;)

    • RE: Deutsche Bahn Delay

I don’t think that’s possible. Deutsche Bahn provides an API, though currently only for long-distance trains and without any information on delays.

    • RE: Mirror larger than monitor

@Atheose thats exactly what i did. the problem is that the part where the monitor is is actually too bright, so it’d probably be better to put some white or light gray paper behind the parts that are not covered by monitor. But it’s not too bad and I don’t want to get the mirror off the wall and disassemble the whole thing again…

    • RE: Mirror larger than monitor

I also have a mirror that is about twice the size of the monitor (60x40cm mirror, 19" 5:4 monitor) and in normal daylight it’s totally not visible. At night, however, when there is no other light in the room you can clearly see where the monitor ends

    • RE: End MM from Terminal

You have to use the pm2 service manager to be able to stop MM with pm2 stop mm

if you just use npm start, you need to press CTRL+C to stop it.
CTRL+C stops any running process in the terminal you are currently in (so e.g. apt-get upgrade could be stopped with it)

In daylight, right next to a window, it’s a bit too dark. My monitor is not really that bright, so it should be fine with a better monitor. When it’s dark and there’s only the ceiling light on (which is quite bright), the mirror’s perfectly fine to read.

      Hi dbahn25!

Could you, please, take some photos in daylight? I’d like to build MM for my girlfriend, that can be used like a normal mirror in a bright room. Actually it’s more important than being smart. :)

      Thanks in advance!

It’s really, really clear. But see yourself :)

    • RE: HMDI (from Pi 3) to DVI? Will it work?

@bibi display port to hdmi works definitely. it’s both digital, so the adapter should be pretty simple and cheap (I use one for ~12€ from miniDP to HDMI on my laptop)

    • RE: 230V in the naked monitor

      Alright, here’s the picture
      0_1479589366377_resize-6.jpg

I checked with a multimeter, the whole case is connected to ground. That won’t be a problem then.
But the monitor gets HOT, I can barely touch the part on the back that has little holes in it. I really need to think of a solution to that.

The Mirror from glas-per-klick looks very cool and the price is not so bad, but they don’t cut the Mirror to my needed size? I’m right or oversee something?
I have tested my MM with a selfmade Mirror from Plexiglass and Mirror Foil, but it looks very poorly. Now I need a real Mirror. The MagicMirror is a neverending project, i spent so much time to wait on a Parcel Service like DHL, UPS, Amazon Logistics and so on :-D

I don’t think you’re overseeing anything. You should probably write to them to ask if they have any other sizes (but I think generally, 60x40cm is quite a good size for a MM).

I tested the glas-per-klick mirror with MM and a Pi 2. In daylight, right next to a window, it’s a bit too dark. My monitor is not really that bright, so it should be fine with a better monitor. When it’s dark and there’s only the ceiling light on (which is quite bright), the mirror’s perfectly fine to read.

    • RE: Frame supplier in Germany

Depending on what size you need, just check out IKEA’s picture frames. I use RIBBA 10x15cm frames for my small “wall projects” with arduinos, they have a few centimeters of space between the frame and the wall to put all the electronics. I don’t know if it’s thick enough for the average monitor to fit in, but you should give it a look. The problem is, since they are built to be cheap, that any frames over 40x70cm (i think) are built with a plexiglass front instead of real glass. That means they are not able to hold the weight of a glass two-way mirror without modification.
