@ooom416354 I am having this exact issue now as well. It began last week. If I refresh the mirror the scores/schedule updates, but otherwise it does not.

  • RE: Mirror larger than monitor

@dbahn25 I’d recommend putting black tape or something similar on the inside of the mirror where the monitor doesn’t show to combat this.

  • RE: Using Mirrored Window Film on TV

@broberg said in Using Mirrored Window Film on TV:

The mirror film rarely lives up to the “mirror” part, sure it reflects light, but not enough to act as a usable mirror

I’m going to disagree with this. I just applied some mirror film to a glass screen yesterday and it looks the exact same as a normal mirror, reflection-wise. No experience on whether this would work well when applied directly to a screen, though.

HAVING SAID THAT, I totally agree with @broberg’s second point: the film is extremely difficult to get perfect. I tried three times and each time there were tiny specks of imperfection in between the film and glass. Every speck of dust or tiny hair fibre shows up as a blemish on the mirror. It really sucks. I highly recommend buying mirrored glass instead.

  • RE: Motion detection: PIR sensor vs picamera

@ZombieDE I went the PIR sensor route, but note that it does NOT work from behind the glass. It needs to be exposed to work, which sort of sucks (and is something I should have researched beforehand).

  • RE: Tips on powering the Pi

Just to give an alternative to what others are saying: my monitor has built-in USB ports, and I’m powering my pi from that just fine. So the only cord I have is the single power cord going into the monitor.

  • RE: Mirror larger than monitor

For what it’s worth, I have a mirror that’s larger than my monitor:

    Monitor: 12.5x19.5"
    Mirror: 14x22"

It looks totally fine. There was some bleed at the edge of the monitor where you could see some light-glow, but I taped that down with electrical tape and now it’s perfect.

  • RE: Would this Mirror Film Work?

I just used this mirror film on my project yesterday. After watching how-to videos and other guides, I found it impossible to get perfect. Every tiny speck of dust or hair on the mirror shows up; it’s impossible to get 100% clean prior to application. I tried three different times and each time there were still specks of imperfection around the edges.

I will definitely be buying mirrored glass next time instead.

@MrH Ahh darn! I was hoping for a ridiculously-convenient box I could buy on Amazon.

So you cut the hole in the plastic yourself?

This is a fantastic looking mirror! Nice job!

What housing is that for the PIR sensor? I’m looking for options to mount mine cleanly but I’m not having much luck.
