@sven1894 Awesome thanks. So I guess you’re saying every selector has to be unique on a page.

    Yip, it’s working! Thanks again!

  • RE: Help me fix my dashboard (see 1st comment) - Issue with duplicating method with MMM-EveryNews

@sven1894 Awesome I renamed the .css’s in each directory and changed the .MMM-EveryNews .header to .MMM-EveryNews1 .header etc and that did it! Thanks so much!!!

If you don’t mind, and so I can learn from this (have limited .css knowledge), I have a few questions:

    1. Why do you think this worked? (and/or why did it not work before)
    2. Is there another way to do this as it would be a pain to do with every update of the module

    I appreciate your time

  • RE: Help me fix my dashboard (see 1st comment) - Issue with duplicating method with MMM-EveryNews

@sven1894 sure. basically it’s this without the numbers (so just MMM_EveryNews)

    basically I’ve tried every permutation

    • called MMM_EveryNews three times with three different news sources (displays correctly formatted, but displays same news source)
    • called three copies of MMM_EveryNews with three different news sources (displays incorrectly formatted, and displays 3 news sources)
    • called MMM_EveryNews three times with same news source (displays correctly formatted, and displays same news source)
    • called three copies of MMM_EveryNews with same news source
(displays incorrectly formatted, and displays same news source) SCREENSHOT AND CODE

@sven1894 When I call the same module 3 times with different news sources, it displays 3 copies the content of just one of sources (usually the first one). I guess it wasn’t designed to be called three times with the same source. The formatting however doesn’t get screwed up.

Making copies of it and renaming the copies gets it to display the three different news sources fine but is screws up the formatting (even when I configure them all to display the same source)

  • Help me fix my dashboard (see 1st comment) - Issue with duplicating method with MMM-EveryNews

I’m trying to create an apple news like feed by having multiple instances of MMM-EveryNews at the bottom of my screen.
    Here is what I did

    1. I duplicated the module folder in the \module folder to create \MMM_EveryNews1, \MMM_EveryNews2, …3
    2. I renamed the .js file in each directory
    3. I edited the .js file to register different module name
I tried to call the module three times at three different locations (bottom_left, bottom_right…) with the same identical parameters, but unfortunately, after the first module (no matter what source I put in it) anything after the first module is magnified. (same parameters etc).
I didn’t change or rename the .css
If I call the same module 3 times (i.e. just call the original module) then the sizing is ok.
      How can I debug???
Also, if you’ve built a good news/stock dashboard, please send me a screenshotalt text
      Thanks!

  • what is most complete informational dashboard that shows stocks, news on stocks, news, weather, and ???

I would like to build a mirror that shows as much information as possible about the stock market, news, and weather. What modules would you recommend? I’ve tried a few but they seem to be lacking in detail, or update frequency. having word of the day, inspirational quotes (from reddit), would be nice too!

i am not interested in calendar, tasks etc as i have all those on my ipad, computer, etc

also visual suggestions for a layout on a 20 inch screen would be awesome. i would buy a touchscreen if i can drill down say into stocks or news by touching the headlines.

also, is it possible to activate only if i am looking at it? or say with gestures (i raise 5 fingers it displays stock only)

    thanks for your thoughts.w

  • RE: Help getting Magic mirror running on Ubuntu Server 16.04.4 LTS as a SERVER

@Mykle1 Correct. That was a typo as I was initially having install problems, so I removed the install and did it again without the sudo. The log/error above is after doing the install without the sudo. Sorry for any confusion!

I think the main issue is with the NPM binding… any idea how to fix that?

    ubuntu@UbuntuMagic:~$ ls -l /home/ubuntu/MagicMirror/config
    total 4
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 2615 Mar 6 20:19 config.js.sample
    ubuntu@UbuntuMagic:~$ more /home/ubuntu/MagicMirror/config

    *** /home/ubuntu/MagicMirror/config: directory ***

I think the issue is with the binding on NPM as it’s only binding to the localhost and not to the IP address of the machine.

  • Help getting Magic mirror running on Ubuntu Server 16.04.4 LTS as a SERVER

I’m trying to install MM on Ubuntu Server 16.04.4 LTS (with all latest patches etc.)

I am following the manual instructions on https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror.

    I:

    • Downloaded and installed the latest Node.js version. (v9.7.1)
    • Cloned the repository and checked out the master branch: git clone https://github.com/MichMich/MagicMirror
    • Entered the repository: cd ~/MagicMirror
    • Installed: (update sudo- does not work I removed it) npm install
    • ran SERVER only node serveronly

    got the following messages:

    Loading module helpers …
    Initializing new module helper …
    Module helper loaded: updatenotification
No helper found for module: helloworld.
    All module helpers loaded.
Starting server on port 8080 …
    Server started …
    Connecting socket for: updatenotification
Sockets connected & modules started …
Ready to go! Please point your browser to: http://localhost:8080

I then went on my mac and typed in http://192.168.0.100:8080 (ipaddress of my magic mirror ubuntu server) and got The connection was reset.

    I then tried

    npm run config:check

    magicmirror@2.2.2 config:check /home/ubuntu/MagicMirror
    node tests/configs/check_config.js

    File not found: /home/ubuntu/MagicMirror/config/config.js

Please note: The second time I ran it I’m getting

WARNING! Could not find config file. Please create one. Starting with default configuration.

UPDATE: I think the issue is with the binding on NPM as it’s only binding to the localhost and not to the IP address of the machine. Does anyone know how to fix that?

    HELP!
