    • 1st Project: Hallway Notice Board with Integrated Smart Mirror

For a while I’ve wanted to make my own mirror and decided to integrate it into a hallway notice board next to the front door.
One of my aims was to try and keep the frame quite low profile, I re-purposed my old Sony Vaio laptop LCD. Set about designing and making the frame.

I decided to make the frame out of Oak.

The software side of things was nice and simple, good to learn some programming along the way to personalise. Just running a few modules at the moment. Will add some more on a timed schedule.
I like the MMM-Todoist Module, I use that to send my mirror messages from wherever I am as reminders.

      Here is the finished Mirror
On the left the is the mirror. I made this myself with glass and mirror vinyl. on the right is a matt grey vinyl on glass with a metal sheet behind for use with the wooden magnets I made to match the frame. I can use liquid chalk markers for notes on the glass.

Overusing the masking tape a little.

Next job is to hang it on the wall and hide the wires powering the mirror.

    • RE: Microsoft To-Do (wunderlist replacement?)

So it looks like Microsoft are starting to replace Wunderlist with Microsoft To Do.

Wondering if anyone has seen a new module for this?
Would like to replace my Wunderlist with this if they’re going to switch off Wunderlist.

It looks like you should be able to use “Outlook Task REST API reference (version 2.0)” for it. But I don’t know enough about programming to make the module myself.

    • RE: Two way mirror film

I haven’t yet, I have used the film on glass for my first mirror project. The main problem is you have to use soapy water (spray) to apply the film to make sure you don’t get any bubbles. (Near impossible to apply film without water)

If you do this directly to a typical monitor screen you might get water over the electronics side of it. You might be able to if you’re extremely careful and take good precautions.

I’m planning on trying this on my next project as I have a touchscreen monitor.
The monitor I have is a frame-less one and the glass is a bit thicker on the front than a typical monitor.
I am confident I can apply the film to this without any issues.

    • NEW Flick hats for Raspberry pi - Might be good for gestures

Has anyone else seen these. Thought it would be great to use with the mirror. Can potentially hide it behind a thin layer of wood veneer to hide it as well.

    • Microsoft To Do List Module Request (Similar to Wunderlist or Todoist)

Any programmers out there who would find this module useful?
Currently using a Wunderlist module which is useful but it does tend to stop working after some time and MM needs restarting to get it going again.

I find this module really useful for sending multiple reminders to my mirror on the fly.

Unfortunately for me I don’t know much about programming, only very few basics.

Ye, I wouldn’t mind having to be close to it as I would just prefer that it was hidden behind some thin wood so you couldn’t tell it was even there.

    • RE: MMM-MyCommute

One more question. I want to make a route going via different roads, can that be done in this config file?
      For example:
      Destination: X
      Via: A1

      Destination: X
      Via: A2

You need to do this with custom CSS. Have a quick google about it. But here is what someone else has done below for the default weather module.

    • RE: Remote messages?

For this, I use a To Do List module. You can add things to your “mirror” to do list remotely, and they will appear on the mirror a minute later. To erase the message, simply complete the to do list item or delete it. You can have multiple items in your list.

I use this for reminders when I’m away from home for example.
There are a few options, but I use https://github.com/thobach/MMM-MicrosoftToDo that @thobach developed and it works really well.

    • RE: Microsoft To Do List Module Request (Similar to Wunderlist or Todoist)

@thobach Sorry it’s been so long. I’ve been without my Mirror for quite some time. But I have updated everything and added this module of yours. It works well, thank you for the detailed instructions for the install, would never have figured it all out myself.
Thank you for the module and the work you’ve put in to it!
Quick question regarding the css classes. Haven’t looked into much detail yet.
But I wanted to know how to write in the custom.css file to centre the list and to change the font size of the list?
      Thanks,
      Joel

I will give this a go soon, although I’m not really getting on with Microsoft To Do. It’s nowhere as good as Wunderlist. Anyone got any other suggestions for good To Do apps?

Sounds interesting, have you asked the company for a sample piece for you to try?
