Hi! I did try this and restarted. The problem persists. I placed that value in two locations… The config for the module and the config for the calendar. Neither has any impact. I also did not see this option mentioned in the GitHub documentation. Perhaps it’s an old value which was retired? Your observation does seem valid. I just wonder why it’s stuck in this mode for me.

I am in New York / Eastern time zone. System time is set to Eastern / New York.

I installed the MMM-MyCalendar module and it’s working with correct dates etc. I’d prefer to use the default one though.

Current default time zone: ‘America/New_York’
Local time is now: Wed Oct 3 16:09:57 EDT 2018.
Universal Time is now: Wed Oct 3 20:09:57 UTC 2018.

Please see an example of what I am seeing. Columbus day is on the 8th (not 9th), Haloween is on October 31 (not November 01) and the rest of the listed dates are wrong too… When I added a calendar with birthdays, I also was seeing a similar error so I removed it to see if this was the cause. My Pi’s clock is set to the correct timezone. Any advice around this would be greatly appreciated. It wasn’t doing this until recently and the only thing I had done was to add the birthday calendar (which I removed).

I have tried reloading the modules, quitting and restarting magic mirror and rebooting the Pi. All to no avail.

Hi! My Magic Mirror is showing that Halloween is in a month and then lists Nov 01 next to it (this is from the US Holidays calendar). Also other dates are offset by +1 day. Also, when I added an additional calendar, it’s showing incorrect dates for events… Is this a known ongoing bug? Any alternative calendar modules I should consider?

That didn’t help in my case, hence the work-around with the cronjob. But it’s true that everybody should first try to disable the update module in their config.

I was unaware of the suggestion to kill the update module. I have removed it from my config and will monitor the status. Thank you for the suggestion (and @sdetweil )! Any other best practice suggestions which I should consider? I have just done the base install and modified weather icons / details and also installed Alexapi (yet to work on that module as I am still trying to understand if I should also install either MMM-Alexa or MMM-Awesome-Alexa too as I am not clear on how these all work).

The update module was throwing an error causing the black screen.

I would comment out that module

I am at the latest build (2.5.0) although I installed Magic Mirror from the previous version and have the update module running.

Ahh, that’s the issue! The modules must get stuck and no longer refresh. Has anyone else run into this issue and found a cause / solution? My issue crops up more often than once per day and I’d prefer to get a permanent fix for this. I don’t have any unusual modules loaded (actually it has been happening from day one while I have been slowly working on it so this has been happening with a fresh install).

Yes, that’s the video. I think I know what needs to be done and I have most of the parts needed. If / when I get this up and running, I will make the missing how-to video for this project.

I have a magic mirror and after a period of several hours, the screen goes black. The mouse still works as I can move it and see the cursor. Clicking the mouse does nothing nor does hitting random keys. I can hit Ctrl-Q to exit Magic Mirror and I get the desktop back. A few seconds later pm2 kicks in and reloads the magic mirror. I experience this when connecting via VNC as well as locally at the system (obvious but mentioning for thoroughness). I also disabled screen blanking and screensaver per the install instructions.

This is a new install on a Pi3B. I would greatly appreciate advice on how to approach this. Thank you in advance!

As a follow up, I noticed that some places have advised to install AlexaPi and MMM-Alexa together. Is this correct? I noticed that there’s also Awesome-Alexa available. Can anyone please shed a little light on what one should do to have a functioning Alexa enabled Magic Mirror? I am aiming for full voice only control. Thanks!
