  • Learning Node.js

So I’m a developer, I typically spend my days in c# and jquery and I figured I would use my downtime to learn Node.js.

My development rig is a windows platform so I just want to double check, if I write a fairly straightforward app (just pulling some json and displaying it), will I be able to do the development on my Windows PC (vs 2017) and merely copy it over to my PI whenever I get to the PI specific code?

  • RE: Re-purpose a RPI from Kodi to MM

I ended up just doing an Update and removing Kodi, everything seems to be working fine otherwise.

    Thx

  • RE: Simple MySQL query

I would create a RESTful api on your source server and then call the api using MMM-json-feed.

You would then loop though the returned dataset.

  • Re-purpose a RPI from Kodi to MM

Not in front of my RPI right not so I don`t have all the specifics just yet but I wanted to know whether I should re-format the SD card and reinstall raspbian or should I just do an Update and just go from there?

  • Is there a list of recommended hardware?

If it doesn’t already exist, I think it would be worthwhile to have a list of specific hardware accessories that are known to work with specific modules…

In my case, I wish to purchase a 1080p surveillance camera to monitor my front porch and display the feed on my mirror but I haven’t been able to find which camera would work with the MM. In my case, I’d love to use a Wyze camera as they are dirt cheap but according to their docs you can only view the feed using their smart phone app.

    Comments?

  • RE: Newb User with multiple Questions

    Ok, got it.

    Thank you.

    Edit:

I was just looking at the Sonos website and thei latest speaker (Sonos One) has Alexa built into it. Now I think that’s a better solution and I would want to see if i can retireve the current song ad metadata through the Sonos.

  • RE: Newb User with multiple Questions

    Thank you for your response…

To clarify the first point…I’d like to be able to use the RPI to play either my music or my wife’s music from our Apple Familt account. I was inquiring as to whether anyone had created a Module that

    • Played music from Apple Music
    • Allowed for Multiple User Accounts

My wife has an iPhone and I use Android so ideally, no connection to our mobile devices but rather an app that runs right on the RPI that could connect to Apple Music…(to be fair, I don’t know if Apple even allows this?)

  • Newb User with multiple Questions

Just wanted to introduce myself and see if what I’m thinking of doing is logical.

I’m a c# programmer and am also fluent in js. I’m looking forward to desinging my own Interface and pulling data from various sources. I’m not familiar with node.js (i believe MM uses node.js) but willing to learn.

    I own a RP3

Some of what I’d like to do:

    • Connect to Apple and allow whoever is in front of the Mirror to change the current user (from myself to my wife’s account) and then choose a playlist and play music
    • Connect to a wireless sound system (perhaps) a Sonos
    • Use Touch or Voice to perform the above
    • Have the screen turn to turn on/off based on motion (?)

I guess I just want to be certain that nay or all of the above is at least doable before I start going down ths rabbt hole.

    Thx in advance!

    Tim
