Which screen for Magic mirror??

Hello,

I need a new display for my Magic Mirror.
But which display is the best?
VA, IPS or TN?

i have read that IPS have the best black level but the highest power consumption.
TN have the lowest power consumption but not a good black level.

OLED is too expensive at the moment. (I found only one for 5000€, from DELL)
My budget is between 100-200 €.

20" between 24".
I think it will be a hole monitor. But first i want to know which display type is the best.
My old display have a bad black level, so it´s dark in my room you can see the backlight very strong.

So, IPS panel is currently the best option, high contrast ratio is also something to look at.

But, in dark you will always see the backlight,
regardless of ips or tn. (this is why many people builds the mirror exactly as large as the screen itself so there is no/minimal “light” edges on the mirror surface)

I’m curious why you left VA off your list?

VA Panels have by far the best contrast ratio and the deepest blacks. I understand they have color shift issues, but it seems like the deeper blacks would be more important, especially if you are planning on just displaying white text without images.

I think VA is cheaper than IPS too, and i wouldn’t generally recommend them, but seems like the perfect use case for a mirror…

Just too add, take a look at this video from about 8 minutes to 10 minutes in. Specifically if you freeze right at 9:05 you will see how much better VA is than IPS at blacks.

Thanks for your suggestion. Looks great! I just bought an BenQ GW2470H with VA Panel for 79€ for my first project off eBay!

@nh_790 I actually missed that VA was mentioned. But yes, the VA is a good option.
And the BenQ GW series you are linking to is actually the ones I’m planning to use in my next mirror, I haven’t tried it yet so I can’t give any recommendations, but on paper it looks really good ( 3000:1 contrast where almost all other screens in that price range only has 1000:1).

But i need a 32’', really flat and, because i’ll use a PIR to send the monitor to standby off/on, without any logo or information “Signal lost/ Signal found” or similar …

Any ideas?

As far as the no signal message, i have monitors from asus, viewsonic, and acer, all display the message. The viewsonic and asus only for a few seconds, and the acer for a bit longer maybe 30 seconds or so…
