@sdetweil I’m pretty sure you can have the raspi turn on and off the screen through the hdmi. I will have to check on that.

I use +/- same config of you :
                RPI3B+ or RPI4 + HDMI/VGA apdator + VGA monitor (24pcs)
and my monitor shutdown and turn on with pir sensor

A little off-topic, nevertheless relevant: I have a laptop with no VGA port and I still use a very old ViewSonic CRT 21" monitor with it, using a HDMI-VGA adapter; When my computer sends the sleep signal to my external monitor through the adapter, the monitor does sleep successfully, so I assume there must be a way to make the RBPI send the same kind of signal through the HDMI port.

Hey! So, there are probably a lot of ways to turn on and off your monitors, but I’m gonna link the one that worked for me. I was using MMM-Remote-Control, but you can take those commands and run them expecting to turn on and off.

I’m just changing the screen to black instead of shutting it off.
