MMM-RAIN-MAP (new: version 2.x)

I think multiple instances don’t work due to duplicate element IDs.
I’ll fix that some day ;-) -

Hi guys,
Thanks for this module,I have a little problem regarding the update time,
Basically the forecast are 2h old, it means it’s showing what happen and not what will happen,
Right now it’s 11:27 and it’s showing data from 9:20 to 11:20, i want it to show from 11:30 to 13:30How do you put the forecast to update for the next 2h?
Also, is there any chance to add more fluidity (or fps) to the animation? For exemple the app raintoday (ios) does this perfectly. I’m not sure if we can get there API.
Thanks!

Well, MMM-RAIN_MAP is based on the FREE Rainviewer API, which allows the use the radar data of the past.
How do you put the forecast to update for the next 2h?
Forecast is a central feature of RainViewers business model. The forecast function of RainViewer requires for the iOS-app (certainly for the Android app, too) a paid subscription. Thus, I strongly doubt, that someone can use a paid function for free via their API. If I read their basic API information correctly, you don’t even get as a patron or gold member of the paid API, the forecast calculations.

The API provides a radar snap shot every 10 minutes- Thus, you’ll meed to interpolate the precipitation images (intensity, direction, accuracy, etc.) which is not a trivial task and needs -depending on the used method and number of interpolations- quite some computational resources. which might not be available on an RPi.

@fozi but but but…can’t you just make it do what someone else wants? LOL
My answer is the same… fork the module and make all the changes you want ;)
-
thank you @matefits71 for your ideas and feedback and thank you @Fozi for your excellent answer about the reasons for all of the current limitations.
I am also not very satisfied with this module and already tried to refactor it with the windy.com API. First results looked okay but I wasn‘t able to get it to a stable state that did not hang up after a few hours on the Raspi due to its high resource consumption.
I am very open for any kind of contribution or ideas here and still think about a second try on the windy refactoring.
By now, unfortunately this module is still the best of its kind :-/

Awesome mod trying to use google maps and created an api key and billing but get error saying that billing needs to be enabled.
-
@swvalenti u have to provide a credit card for billing to work.
google gives you limited free usage, and their design is that the using app should keep working, even when the free usage runs out… So, they demand a useful card up front.

@sdetweil Correct I have primary and backup on file but doesn’t seem to work saying I still need billing enabled.
